As of May 28, 2026, the average weekly pay for psychiatric nursing rn in Florida is $1,536.29, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $1,294.23 and $1,775.00 per week, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Psychiatric Nursing RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Psychiatric Nursing RN, you need strong psychiatric assessment skills, knowledge of mental health disorders, and a nursing degree with current RN licensure, often complemented by specialized psychiatric nursing certification. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), crisis intervention tools, and medication management systems is essential. Exceptional communication, emotional resilience, and de-escalation abilities distinguish top performers in this role. These skills and qualities support safe, compassionate care and help manage complex behavioral situations in mental health settings.

What are some typical challenges a Psychiatric Nursing RN might face when working with patients, and how are these addressed in practice?

Psychiatric Nursing RNs often encounter challenges such as managing patients with acute mental health crises, unpredictable behaviors, or co-occurring substance abuse issues. Effective communication, de-escalation techniques, and ongoing collaboration with multidisciplinary teams are essential in addressing these challenges. Nurses receive specialized training in crisis intervention and patient safety protocols, and they regularly participate in team meetings to discuss care strategies and share insights. Support from experienced colleagues and access to mental health resources also play a key role in helping RNs navigate these demanding situations.

What are psychiatric nursing RNs?

Psychiatric nursing RNs, also known as psychiatric-mental health registered nurses, are specialized nurses who care for patients with mental health disorders, emotional challenges, or psychiatric illnesses. They assess mental health needs, develop care plans, administer medications, and provide therapeutic support in various settings such as hospitals, clinics, and community centers. Their role also includes collaborating with psychiatrists, social workers, and families to promote optimal mental health outcomes.

Job description

Amaze Health is a virtual healthcare company unlike any other. We provide concierge-style virtual care at the touch of a button. It's like having that "doctor friend" everyone wishes they had for anything health-related (current health concern, illness, accident, chronic condition, mental health, etc.). Amaze is the always-accessible, independent healthcare partner dedicated to empowering our patients with all the care, tools and resources they need to thrive within an increasingly complex and difficult US healthcare system. We don't just take care of people; we partner with them and change lives. Join our innovative team as we transform healthcare in America, one patient at a time.

Amaze Health is searching for an RN or LPN who can provide nursing care to mental health patients in a telemedicine environment and navigate the complex healthcare system to ensure the best care for the patient. We are in all 50 states and provide bridge services to decrease the gap in mental health support for patients across the country. Amaze is searching for someone who fits our model, who not only enjoys providing patient care and reducing stigma but also enjoys the dynamic of assisting clients in need with brief interventions with our mental health urgent care model. Our unique model allows nurses to work autonomously while supported by an interdisciplinary team of providers such as social workers, therapists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, family practitioners and other psychiatric nurses. Patients include children, adults and families.

Candidates must have a compact Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license. CA license is a plus.

Candidates must reside in one of the following states to be considered for this position: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania or Texas.

Requirements

  • Partner with individuals to achieve their recovery goals
  • Provide health promotion and maintenance
  • Conduct intake screening, evaluation, and triage
  • Provide Case management
  • Teach self-care activities
  • Administer and monitor psychobiological treatment regimens
  • Practice crisis intervention and stabilization
  • Engage in psychiatric rehabilitation and intervention
  • Educate patients, families, and communities
  • Active unrestricted compact nursing license is required - RN or LPN

Pay range is $60,000 - $90,000

Benefits

This position is a full time benefited role. Amaze offers a comprehensive benefit plan to include medical, dental and vision insurance, 401K and paid time off.
