What is a Psychedelic Therapy Assistant?

A Psychedelic Therapy Assistant is a trained professional who supports licensed therapists and clients during psychedelic-assisted therapy sessions. Their role may include preparing the therapy space, monitoring clients' well-being, taking session notes, and providing emotional support before, during, and after the experience. While they do not lead the therapy themselves, they play a crucial role in ensuring safety, comfort, and adherence to ethical guidelines. Psychedelic Therapy Assistants often work in clinical or research settings under the supervision of mental health professionals.

Spravato sessions are delivered in small cohorts (3-4 patients) and require 2+ hours of on-site monitoring in accordance with FDA REMS requirements.

This role offers the opportunity to participate in the growing field of psychedelic and innovative mental health treatments in a flexible clinical environment.

What You'll Do

  • Complete required documentation accurately and on time

  • Coordinate with Journey Clinical operations and partner sites to ensure smooth patient flow

  • Support a calm, safe environment for small cohorts (typically 3-4 patients per session block)

Schedule & Location
  • Part-time / per-diem (1099 contractor)

  • Sessions often scheduled evenings/weekends (varies by site)

  • Travel to partner therapist offices within an agreed-upon radius

Required Qualifications
  • Active NP or PA license in the state of practice

  • Current, unrestricted DEA registration

  • Willingness to register/associate your DEA registration to partner site address(es) as needed for Spravato operations

  • Comfort with outpatient monitoring and responding to clinical changes (e.g., blood pressure changes, anxiety, dissociation)

  • Strong documentation skills and reliability with protocols

  • Willingness to complete required program training (Spravato REMS-related processes)

  • ย
  • Ideal candidates will have psychiatry experience; ketamine/esketamine, TMS, infusion, or other monitoring workflows
