Job description

Pittsburg State University is accepting applications for a Maintenance & Repair Worker. The primary function of the Maintenance and Repair Worker is to perform or assist with general maintenance and repair tasks in assigned areas. Positions assigned to the job may also have maintenance related cleaning responsibilities, including mechanical spaces, equipment and roof areas.

Duties and Responsibilities of Position -

45%    Assists facilities staff with needed maintenance, services and repairs in various trades to include mechanical, electrical, carpentry, painting and plumbing.  Operates power hand tools and instruments. Maintains adequate supply of tools, parts, and supplies. Cleans roofs, mechanical spaces, trucks, and trades shops. 

40% Performs preventive maintenance, cleaning and repairs of campus equipment and buildings. Notification of any equipment shutdowns to Maintenance Supervisor or Power Plant Department.  Respond to after hour emergency calls, overtime hours as required.  Assist with other maintenance areas and in other work areas as assigned by Maintenance Supervisor and/or Director.  Communicate and report maintenance issues as required for efficient and safe resolution. Performs related tasks assigned by Maintenance Supervisor and/or Director. 

10% Operates all industrial lifts, light automotive equipment, motorized equipment, pickup trucks, forklifts, automobiles and blowers, loads and unloads and delivers supplies, travels to other locations to transport equipment and materials.  Operates 2 and 3 ton bucket trucks. 

5% Other duties essential to PSU daily operations. 

Education and Experience - 

Required Education and Experience at Hire-

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

  • Two years of related maintenance and repair experience 

  • Prior experience operating equipment

Job Type:  University Support Staff

Appointment Duration:  12 months

Work Schedule:  Full Time - Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.

Salary Range: grade 5, $16.11 - $21.18 hourly
