As of Jul 14, 2026, the average hourly pay for psilocybin in the United States is $26.34, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.14 and $30.77 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How do I become a psilocybin therapist?

A psilocybin therapist typically needs a relevant mental health or medical license, such as a psychologist, psychiatrist, or clinical social worker, along with specialized training in psychedelic-assisted therapy. Certification programs and supervised clinical experience in psychedelic therapy are often required, and practitioners must adhere to legal regulations that vary by jurisdiction.

What is a Psilocybin job?

A Psilocybin job typically involves working in research, therapy, cultivation, or policy related to psilocybin, a psychedelic compound found in certain mushrooms. Professionals in this field may study its effects, facilitate therapeutic sessions, or advocate for legal reforms. Roles can include clinical therapists, mycologists, policy advocates, and lab researchers. With growing interest in psychedelic-assisted therapy, careers in psilocybin are expanding in both clinical and scientific settings.

How much money do psychedelic therapists make?

Psychedelic therapists typically earn between $40,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and credentials. Salaries can increase with advanced training, certification, and working in private practice or specialized clinics.

What is the difference between Psilocybin vs Clinical Psychologist?

AspectPsilocybinClinical Psychologist
Required CredentialsResearch approval, medical supervisionDoctoral degree (PhD or PsyD), licensure
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, clinical trial settingsClinics, hospitals, private practice
Industry UsageTherapeutic research, mental health studiesPatient diagnosis, therapy, mental health treatment

While Psilocybin is a psychedelic compound used in research and therapy settings, a Clinical Psychologist is a licensed mental health professional providing diagnosis and treatment. Psilocybin research often involves clinical psychologists, but they are distinct roles with different credentials and work environments.

What are some key responsibilities and challenges for professionals working in psilocybin-assisted therapy programs?

Professionals in psilocybin-assisted therapy programs are typically responsible for screening clients, preparing them for sessions, administering doses in controlled environments, and providing integration support afterward. One of the main challenges is maintaining strict adherence to legal and ethical guidelines, as well as ensuring client safety throughout the process. Teamwork is essential, as therapists often collaborate with medical staff, researchers, and support personnel to deliver safe and effective care. Additionally, professionals must be prepared to handle unpredictable emotional or psychological responses from clients during sessions.

Do any jobs test for psilocybin?

Jobs in law enforcement, healthcare, and drug testing laboratories often screen for psilocybin use through urine or blood tests, especially if drug testing is part of the employment process. Employers in safety-sensitive industries typically require drug tests that can detect illegal substances, including psilocybin, to ensure a drug-free workplace.

What are psilocybin facilitators?

Psilocybin facilitators are trained professionals who guide individuals through psychedelic experiences using psilocybin, a naturally occurring psychedelic compound found in certain mushrooms. Their role includes preparing participants, ensuring safety during sessions, and supporting integration of the experience afterward. Facilitators may work in clinical research settings, therapeutic environments, or retreat centers, and often have backgrounds in mental health, counseling, or related fields. As psilocybin-assisted therapy becomes more recognized, these facilitators play a crucial role in creating safe and supportive spaces for participants.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Psilocybin Facilitator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Psilocybin Facilitator, you need a background in psychology or mental health, knowledge of psychedelic medicine, and often certification from an accredited training program. Familiarity with legal frameworks, harm reduction tools, and integration techniques is typically required. Compassion, non-judgmental listening, and strong interpersonal communication help facilitators support participants through challenging experiences. These skills and qualities are essential to ensure participant safety, ethical practice, and effective therapeutic outcomes in psilocybin sessions.

What jobs work with psychedelics?

Jobs that work with psychedelics include researchers and scientists studying their effects, clinicians and therapists involved in psychedelic-assisted therapy, and regulatory professionals overseeing legal use. These roles often require specialized training, certifications, and adherence to legal and safety standards within medical or research environments.
