Summary

Perform testing and inspection engineering work requiring technical knowledge and experience in connection with physical and electrical testing, inspection and evaluation of materials, equipment and systems associated with the electric and gas utility and power generation. 

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct assigned work so that personnel and the public are safeguarded at all times. 
  • Perform tests assigned to the group following prescribed procedures and verified by Laboratory & Testing Services.
  • Obtain clearance in the field and make necessary arrangements for the performance of the work.
  • Confirm arrangements prior to leaving Laboratory & Testing Services.
  • Modify test procedures, apparatus, set-ups, methods, and computer applications to meet requirements for tests.  Instruct assigned personnel.
  • Perform a variety of non-routine tests and inspections, as instructed, making a complete test set-up.  Inspect, clean, adjust calibrate and repair all test instruments and equipment used in the work in the Facility and field to assure instrumentation is operating properly and with prescribed accuracy.
  • Witness and approve tests and examinations of equipment, components, and materials, normally tested by division personnel, in manufacturers' plants and other locations or those conducted by other testing agencies.
  • Develop and write reports, perform, and check computations on tests and investigations for completeness and accuracy.
  • Operate any Company vehicles for which they are qualified.
  • Typical work (laboratory and field assignments) includes: 
    • Infrared thermographic inspections of overhead circuits, switchyard components, transformers, and power generation electrical equipment
    • Database maintenance for infrared and high voltage safety equipment records
    • Cable inspection
    • High voltage safety equipment cleaning, repair, and testing
    • Other materials testing and inspection as assigned
Job Qualifications
  • Must meet the Company's "General Requirements", and, in addition:
  • Must have completed technical training equivalent to two* years of college.
  • Must have a working knowledge and be able to acquire a thorough knowledge of the operation and application of the instruments, test equipment, computers, and test methods used in the work.
  • Must have a basic working knowledge and be able to acquire a thorough working knowledge of the principles of science and engineering as they apply to the work (such as electrical power applications, electronic circuitry, chemistry, materials science, physics, etc.). 
  • Must be a careful and thorough worker and be able to exercise good judgment.
  • Must possess the skill and knowledge necessary for certification(s) to the required level in all pertinent test disciplines.
  • Must meet all training required in order to perform the duties of the position.
  • Must possess a U.S. driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record." 
  • Must meet and maintain nuclear requirements for Unescorted Site Access.
  • A valid Real ID or an approved form of alternate documentation (see https://www.pseg.com/IDrequirement) is required for this position.
  • Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required. 
  • *Must have completed technical training equivalent to three years of college to continue contractual 6-month automatic pay progressions uninterrupted beyond pay step "I".

  • BS Degree in Engineering - Mechanical, Electrical, Materials 
  • Experience working in Utility Switch and Substations, and Nuclear Power Generation Facilities
  • Experience in performing infrared thermography, materials evaluation, calibration, repair and testing of electrical test equipment
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
  • Knowledge of SAP

For all roles, PSEG's drug and alcohol testing program includes pre-employment testing, testing for cause, and post-incident/accident testing. 
Employees who are hired or transfer into a federally regulated role (including positions covered by USDOT, PHMSA, or NRC regulations) are subject to random drug and alcohol testing, inclusive of marijuana. Although numerous states throughout the country have legalized marijuana/cannabis products recreationally and medically, the use of these products are prohibited for employees in federally regulated roles. Please note that the use of CBD products may result in a positive drug test for THC/Marijuana and such use is not a legitimate medical explanation for a positive result.
