Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) Engineer II supports Holtec's advanced reactor development by contributing to risk-informed safety analysis efforts for the SMR-300 program. This role is part of a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for supporting design, safety analysis, and licensing of next-generation nuclear technology. The position focuses on developing and maintaining PSA models and thermal-hydraulic analyses, while translating technical findings into actionable insights that support safe and effective reactor design.
Location: Camden, NJ (On-site) - Relocation assistance available!
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain PRA logic models and supporting thermal-hydraulic analyses used for risk quantification and licensing support
- Build Level 1 and Level 2 PRA models for internal and external events across full power and shutdown operating conditions
- Support thermal-hydraulic modeling (RELAP5-3D, MELCOR) to simulate core and containment response in severe accident scenarios
- Assist in development and quantification of event trees and fault trees to evaluate key risk metrics such as core damage frequency (CDF) and large release frequency (LRF)
- Support ongoing updates and maintenance of PSA models as SMR-300 design evolves
- Apply PSA results to support risk-informed programs (e.g., RTNSS, D-RAP, 10 CFR 50.69 categorization)
- Interface with design teams to communicate PSA insights and support design decision-making
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality across PSA analyses and deliverables
- Contribute to technical documentation supporting regulatory and licensing activities
