Schedule: Full-Time | Outdoor Yard Role
Compensation: $16.90 - $18.50 (Depending on Experience)

The Role

Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery is seeking skilled Pruners to support tree health, structure, and presentation across nursery operations.

Working under the direction of a Crew Leader and Yard Management, this role is responsible for applying proper pruning techniques to manage growth, maintain plant quality, and support overall nursery standards. Pruners play an important role in ensuring trees are structurally sound, aesthetically appropriate, and market-ready.

Success in this position requires strong plant knowledge, attention to detail, safe tool use, and consistent execution.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform pruning using hand pruners, pole pruners, extension pruners, and handsaws
  • Follow direction from Crew Leader and Yard Management on pruning standards
  • Identify plant growth characteristics and apply proper pruning techniques
  • Report plant pests or disease concerns
  • Perform stake repair and tree tying maintenance
  • Safely use ladders (8–14 feet) during pruning activities
  • Maintain plant health and overall nursery presentation
  • Support general yard cleanliness and plant care standards
  • Assist other nursery departments as needed

What You Bring

Required

  • Knowledge of plant identification and growth characteristics
  • Understanding of basic pruning techniques
  • Ability to work safely with ladders and hand tools
  • Ability to work effectively in small teams (2–4 employees)
  • Strong attention to detail and plant quality

Preferred

  • Nursery or landscape maintenance experience
  • Experience identifying pests and plant disease

Work Environment & Expectations

This is a physically demanding outdoor role performed in varying weather conditions and on uneven ground surfaces.

Physical requirements include:

  • Standing and extensive walking throughout the shift
  • Climbing ladders (8–14 feet)
  • Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs (75% of the time)
  • Team lifting up to 100 lbs (25% of the time)
  • Frequent hand tool use and gross grasping

PPE is required as applicable.
