Job description

Description

The Director, Investor Relations & Competitive Intelligence is a senior leader responsible for managing a world-class analytical framework encompassing macroeconomic, equity market and peer financial data that informs management’s view of how the investment community will interpret the company’s financial performance, strategic actions, and disclosures. This role will support the IR organization by leading competitive intelligence for the enterprise, and will be responsible for translating insights into clear recommendations for the Head of Investor Relations, the CFO, and the Executive Leadership Team.

The Director will serve as a trusted advisor who blends deep financial expertise with strategic thinking and strong communication. This role manages a senior analyst focused on competitive intelligence and plays an integral role in the earnings process, investor messaging, targeting, and broader IR initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Competitive Intelligence & Market Insights

· Lead the competitive intelligence program covering large bank peers: financial performance, KPIs, strategy changes, pricing/portfolio dynamics, credit trends, capital and liquidity actions, and regulatory developments.

· Develop peer dashboards, scorecards, and quarterly competitor insights that inform leadership’s understanding of market positioning.

· Monitor earnings releases, conference presentations, and strategic announcements across peer institutions; provide timely analysis and implications.

· Track and synthesize sell-side research, investor commentary, and market sentiment to identify themes that are resonating with the Street—and those that are not.

Sell-Side Modeling & Consensus Analytics

· Build, maintain, and enhance a financial model to forecast how analysts are likely to interpret company performance trends.

· Conduct scenario analyses on rate paths, deposit pricing/betas, loan growth, credit normalization, hedging strategies, CECL impacts, and capital actions.

· Own consensus tracking, variance analysis, and reconciliation of sell-side assumptions vs. internal expectations.

· Produce valuation, attribution, and peer rerating analyses (e.g., P/E, P/TBV, ROTCE vs. COE, capital return implications).

Earnings & Disclosure Support

-Play a central role in the earnings preparation process:

- Contribute to the earnings press release, slides, Q&A materials, talking points, and internal briefing documents.

- Identify key themes and potential Street reactions.

- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity across disclosures.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

· Provide the Head of IR, CFO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board with clear, actionable insights derived from competitive analysis and Street modeling.

· Support investor and analyst meetings, conference participation, and non-deal roadshows.

· Build strong relationships across Finance, Accounting, Corporate Communications, Legal, Treasury/ALM, and other business segments.

Leadership & Team Development

· Manage, coach, and develop a Senior Associate focused on competitive intelligence.

· Establish clear goals, review cycles, and professional development paths.

· Ensure high-quality processes, documentation, and analytical rigor across all work products.

Additional Responsibilities

· Support broader IR initiatives: investor targeting, perception studies, annual report elements, and IR program enhancements.

· Serve as a subject matter expert for internal partners on investor expectations, competitive trends, and sector dynamics.

· Other duties as assigned to support the needs of the IR function.

Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or related field.

8+ years of relevant experience in:

- Equity research

- Investment banking

- Corporate finance, FP&A, Strategy, Treasury/ALM

- Investor Relations

· Demonstrated mastery of financial modeling, especially bank financials (NII/NIM, deposit betas, credit/CECL, capital ratios, liquidity, AOCI).

· Strong analytical and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex drivers into clear and concise insights.

· Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.

· Ability to manage highly confidential information with professionalism.

· Experience working under tight deadlines and in high-visibility situations.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and analytical tools (Bloomberg, FactSet, S&P Capital IQ, Visible Alpha, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

· MBA and/or CFA designation.

· Deep understanding of large-bank financials, regulatory capital frameworks, liquidity management, and disclosure norms.

· Experience managing or developing junior talent.

· Strong strategic thinker with the ability to connect market dynamics to company positioning and investor expectations.

· Analytical rigor to build models and insights that are accurate, traceable, and decision-useful.

· Executive influence and presence to communicate with senior leaders and external stakeholders.

· Ability to execute with urgency, precision, and composure under pressure.
