Job description

Position: Network Technician (L4)
Client: Ciena
Location: Portland, OR (100% Onsite)
Duration: Long-term Contract
Rate: $50/hr - $52/hr on C2C
Key Responsibilities:
Manage deployment project documentation (daily reports, closing docs, engineering updates)
Collect, validate, and submit network test records
Perform advanced provisioning, troubleshooting, and software upgrades
Provide remote support and mentor field technicians
Collaborate with Ciena PM and engineering teams
Resolve complex technical issues and escalate when necessary
Execute test plans and MOPs (non-intrusive procedures)
Commission and provision Ciena equipment
Build and troubleshoot circuits end-to-end
Required Experience:
7+ years in telecom deployment/network support
Experience in advanced provisioning & troubleshooting (mandatory)
Understanding of blueprints/MOPs (mandatory)
Strong aptitude for AWS Automation/Workflows and new platforms
Strong troubleshooting skills for complex network/system issues
Experience leading or mentoring technicians during maintenance windows
Familiarity with network management tools/platforms
Strong communication and documentation skills
Ability to work independently and in team environments
Valid U.S. Driver's License
Preferred / Nice to Have:
Experience with Ciena products (preferred, not mandatory overall)
Ciena 6500 / RLS experience (required for L4 level roles)
Unix/Linux familiarity
Background in NOC or remote support environments
Experience supporting North American telecom customers
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
Additional Details:
Strong Optical Networking Expertise (DWDM, OTN, SONET, ROADM, real-world deployments in telecom/data center environments)
Proven experience with Ciena 6500, Waveserver, and packet platforms (design, deployment, provisioning, troubleshooting)
End-to-end deployment & provisioning, circuit build, commissioning, MOP execution, and test validation
Network transformation projects experience (migration from legacy SONET/TDM to modern architectures)
Advanced troubleshooting & Tier 3 support, including complex outage handling and root cause analysis
Extensive experience with documentation: SOW, BOM, MOPs, test plans, engineering documents
AWS experience is valuable (data center interconnects, cloud environments)
Mentorship and coordination experience supporting field teams, NOC, and cross-functional stakeholders
