Overnight Security Officer

Excelsior Defense is seeking highly skilled and vigilant Security Officers to provide overnight protection at the Memphis VA Medical Center. We're looking for dedicated individuals who excel in high-responsibility roles and are committed to ensuring a secure, supportive environment for Veterans, visitors, and staff.

Position: Overnight Security Officer Location: Memphis VA Medical Center, Memphis, TN Job Type: Full-time/Part-time, Overnight Shifts

Responsibilities:

  • Access Control & Monitoring: Operate and enforce a personnel identification system, inspect packages as required, and manage controlled entry throughout the night.
  • Proactive Patrols: Conduct thorough foot or vehicle patrols in key areas to deter unauthorized activity, ensuring a visible security presence for the safety of the facility and its occupants.
  • Incident Management & Reporting: Identify and report any potential safety hazards, suspicious activity, or unauthorized access attempts immediately to VA Police. Handle emergency situations, civil disturbances, and provide evacuation assistance following VA protocols.
  • Professional Interaction: Maintain a professional and helpful demeanor, assisting visitors and employees, and ensuring compliance with building regulations.
  • Emergency Readiness: Respond swiftly to alarms, perform health and safety checks, administer first aid and CPR if needed, and coordinate with emergency responders to manage overnight incidents effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in overnight security services, ideally in a high-responsibility or healthcare setting.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with fluency in English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to adhere to strict security protocols, observe keenly, and submit clear and detailed reports.
  • Excellent physical condition, capable of conducting active patrols and meeting VA health standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to remain calm and make quick, sound decisions in high-stress situations.

Preferred Certifications:

  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training, or willingness to complete training upon hiring
