Power Up Your Career in the Utility Industry

Weโ€™re looking for an experienced RTU Technician to join our Trussville, Alabama team. In this role, youโ€™ll apply your knowledge of substation automation and control systems to support, install, and troubleshoot remote terminal units (RTUs) that link substation equipment to the utilityโ€™s SCADA system.

If you have a strong background in electrical systems and enjoy hands-on, field-based work where no two projects are the same, this is an excellent opportunity to take your technical career to the next level. Youโ€™ll collaborate with engineers and customers throughout project design, construction, and commissioningโ€”seeing your work directly impact reliable power delivery across the region.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, control wiring, and communication networks.
  • Work with DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 61850 SCADA communication protocols.
  • Interpret and update engineering drawings, including one-line and three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.
  • Use configuration software (such as SEL and GE RTU tools) to implement control logic and settings.
  • Coordinate with engineers and project managers to support commissioning and field testing activities.
  • Mentor newer technicians and support continuous improvement within the field team.
  • Maintain detailed records of configuration changes, test results, and field modifications.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 5+ years in electrical or controls systems work within the power industry or related fields.
  • Education: Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering Technology, Industrial Controls, or a related discipline (equivalent experience may substitute).
  • Strong understanding of electrical drawings, RTU wiring, and control circuit troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining RTUs (SEL, GE, or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet, serial, and fiber communication systems.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in the field.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Why Youโ€™ll Love Working in Trussville

Based in Trussville, Alabama, youโ€™ll enjoy a welcoming community just minutes from Birminghamโ€™s energy and excitement. Itโ€™s the best of both worlds: small-town comfort with big-city opportunity.
