Job Title: Security Officer
Department: Security Services
Reports to: Security Manager
Employment Type: Part-Time
Compensation: $16.50/hour
Position Summary
The Security Officers are responsible for the safety and security of Fernbank Museum of Natural History, its employees, guests, facility, and assets.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Secure premises and personnel by monitoring surveillance equipment, alarms, patrolling property, monitoring facility, and controlling all access points.
  • Perform facility opening procedures as well as closing procedures.
  • Control and monitor vehicle and bus access to parking lots, service drive, loading dock, and historic houses. Manage parking lot full signage when needed.
  • Respond, document, and report incidents to proper authorities including physical security, personal injury, safety issues, disorderly conduct, property damage, suspicious persons, theft, vandalism, parking lot incidents, etc.
  • Enforces all security and safety protocols and procedures.
  • Provides any assistance needed for employees, guests, and patrons while following the department's standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • General computer and technology proficiency.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work successfully both as part of a team and independently.
  • Able to use good judgment and common sense effectively while under pressure.
  • Able to traverse the building, including moving between floors using stairs.
  • Able to lift boxes and materials up to 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Customer service experience a plus.
  • Security Guard, First Aid, and CPR certifications a plus.
  • Flexible schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
