As a Protection and Control Designer, you will frequently collaborate with electrical, civil, and SCADA engineers throughout the lifecycle of a substation project. Coordination is essential during the design phase to ensure proper integration of protection schemes with physical layouts and communication systems. You will also work closely with project managers and field technicians to address constructability concerns and resolve issues that arise during installation and commissioning. Effective communication and teamwork are key to ensuring that all systems function seamlessly and meet regulatory standards.

What are Protection and Control Designers?

Protection and Control Designers are specialized electrical engineers or technologists who design systems that protect electrical power networks and ensure their reliable operation. They develop schematics and layouts for protective relays, control panels, and communication systems that detect faults and isolate problem areas within substations or transmission lines. Their work is critical to preventing outages, equipment damage, and safety hazards in electrical grids. These professionals collaborate with utility companies, engineering firms, and project teams to implement and test their designs.
