About the Role:

The Mortgage Loan Processor plays a key role in delivering an efficient, accurate, and positive mortgage experience for members. This position is responsible for gathering, reviewing, and verifying all loan documentation to ensure compliance with credit union policies, regulatory requirements, and secondary market guidelines. This position works closely with lenders, underwriters, and operations teams to facilitate smooth loan closings, maintain high-quality loan files, and provide exceptional member experience. Success in this role is measured by accurate, timely loan processing, strong documentation quality, and seamless collaboration with lending partners.

Expectations and Responsibilities

  • Loan Documentation & File Management (50%)
    • Collect, review, and verify all loan application documentation, including income, employment, assets, and property information.
    • Ensure loan files are complete, accurate, and meet credit union policy, regulatory requirements, and secondary market standards.
    • Prepare and organize loan packages for underwriting review.
    • Coordinate with lenders and members to resolve documentation issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Compliance & Risk Management (20%)
    • Ensure all loan documentation and processes comply with federal and state regulations, internal policies, and audit requirements.
    • Maintain accurate records of all file communications, conditions, and approvals.
    • Support internal audits, quality control reviews, and regulatory examinations as needed.
  • Member & Lending Partnership (15%)
    • Acts as a knowledgeable resource for lenders, helping with documentation requirements and file preparation.
    • Communicate with members in a professional and supportive manner to collect required documentation and answer questions.
    • Maintain a member-focused approach while ensuring compliance and risk standards are met.
  • Process Efficiency & Performance (10%)
    • Follow established workflows and service standards to ensure timely loan processing.
    • Identify and suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and member experience.
    • Track personal performance metrics such as file completion accuracy, turnaround times, and quality.
  • Professional Development & Expertise (5%)
    • Stay current with mortgage products, lending regulations, and industry best practices.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2-4 years of mortgage loan processing experience preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Solid knowledge of mortgage documentation requirements, loan products, and underwriting guidelines.
    • Understanding of federal and state mortgage regulations and secondary market standards.
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines accurately and efficiently.
    • Commitment to delivering excellent member service and ethical lending practices.
    • Credit union or community financial institution experience preferred.
