Summary of the role
Reporting directly to the Vice President of Sales & Marketing, the Proposal Manager plays a critical role in developing winning proposals for hydropower turbines, generators, and ancillary equipment across the US market. This position is responsible for managing the full sales cycle-from pre-bid activities such as budgetary estimates and customer meetings, through proposal development and internal reviews, to customer negotiations and seamless project handover to execution.
Core responsibilities of this role:
  • Develop and present sales proposals based on customer requirements, including sales assessment and planning, vendor negotiation, cost estimates, and final bid preparation.
  • Review the terms and conditions of a customer RFQ package and compare against internal legal guidelines, including identifying commercial risk and mitigation measures
  • Attend pre-bid conferences and establish bidding strategies.
  • Address technical and commercial issues related to the bid process.
  • Act as a liaison between various departments, subcontractors, and the customer.
  • Create and adhere to project schedules and cost evaluations related to bid preparation.
  • Evaluate and negotiate commercial terms and conditions for the bid.
  • Attend meetings with customers, consultants, subcontractors, and affiliates.

The ideal candidate will be a confident leader, capable of guiding both technical and commercial discussions, while fostering collaboration across a diverse proposal team. This role requires strong organizational skills to navigate a defined sales process, including securing internal approvals and aligning proposals with strategic business objectives. The Proposal Manager will indirectly lead a team of technical and commercial experts, both domestically and internationally, to define the scope, schedule, and budget of competitive, high-quality proposals.
    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline, or foreign equivalent
    • 5-10 years of experience in the hydropower or similar industry (energy, water/wastewater, pumps, motors...) including commercial, or project management functions and commissioning experience; 10+yrs strongly preferred
    • Requires domestic travel, periodically up to 25%
    • Comprehensive knowledge of proposal development, estimating procedures/techniques, and typical construction assemblies, practices, and methods
    • Strong technical skills and experience reading technical drawings
    • Is comfortable being a key part of a project team
    • Ability to balance technical needs with project economics
    • Ability to evaluate and negotiate commercial terms and conditions for the bid
    • Ability to communicate technical details and to verbally discuss product and pricing issues to customers through written and verbal communication
