Job description

In the role of Controller, you will function as the day-to-day accounting leader for our multifamily portfolio, owning financial operations, strengthening controls, and driving accuracy across the organization. If you thrive in environments where you can build, lead, and improve, not just maintain, this role was designed for you.

What You’ll Own

You will serve as the operational backbone of our accounting function, with responsibility for:

  • Overseeing full-cycle accounting operations for a multifamily property portfolio

  • Managing multiple site/budget month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes with accuracy and timeliness

  • Reviewing financial statements, general ledger activity, accruals, and reconciliations

  • Ensuring compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting standards

  • Partnering with the CFO on financial reporting, analysis, audits, and strategic initiatives

  • Supporting property operations by ensuring clean, reliable financial data for decision-making

  • Strengthening accounting processes, workflows, and internal controls as the company scales

  • Leading, mentoring, and reviewing work of accounting team members

  • Supporting acquisitions, transitions, and system improvements as applicable

  • Acting as the primary escalation point for complex accounting questions

What Success Looks Like

  • Month-end closes are smooth, predictable, and accurate

  • Financial statements are reliable, well-documented, and audit-ready

  • Accounting processes are clear, consistent, and scalable

  • Property and operations leaders trust the numbers- and you

  • The CFO can confidently rely on you as their right hand for accounting execution

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • CPA required

  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience (multifamily or real estate strongly preferred)

  • Proven experience leading month-end close and financial reporting

  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal controls

  • Experience with property management accounting systems (Yardi preferred)

  • Confident, solutions-oriented communicator who can partner across departments

  • High attention to detail with the ability to see the big picture

  • Comfortable operating with autonomy, ownership, and accountability
