Job description

Technology Project Designer - Mission Critical & Healthcare

IMEG is hiring a Technology Project Designer - Mission Critical & Healthcare to support technology and low-voltage design projects across our Midwest offices. This role may be based in Naperville, IL; Columbus, OH; Independence, OH; Indianapolis, IN; Madison, WI; or Rock Island, IL. Candidates in the greater Chicago, Cleveland, and Quad Cities areas are encouraged to apply.

In this role, you'll lead design efforts for low- to moderate-complexity projects and support larger, high-complexity work alongside senior staff. You'll collaborate with engineers and consultants to deliver engineering solutions and client guidance for building technology systems, including ICT, low-voltage, communications, security, and related technology infrastructure.

Principal Responsibilities

Lead design efforts for IT structured cabling, audio/video, security, and other low-voltage building systems
Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards
Partner with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong professional relationships
Support consulting project execution while leading planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities to meet deadlines and objectives
Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project progress, percent complete, and fee expended
Analyze engineering problems and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical, efficient solutions
Perform in-process design reviews and apply IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG, industry, and client standards
Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in low-voltage technology (ICT) engineering, and contribute to research and innovation efforts
Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work by identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with low-voltage technology ICT systems
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions and support projects through bidding and construction administration

Required Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer or related Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, related STEM field, or equivalent required
Engineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred
3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry OR
Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred
7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry
Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles relating to electrical voltage and current, digital and analog signals, basic IT networking topologies and protocols, as it relates to electrical low-voltage systems design for buildings
Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
Proficiency in the use of BIM software
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
Ability to travel up to 30% with occasional over night stays

Salary Ranges (by jurisdiction, in compliance with local laws):

Salary Range: $86,000- $120,000.

Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
