How You'll Make a Difference (Essential Functions)
The Dementia Village Student Home Assistant provides direct care, supervision, and support to residents in a Community-Based Residential Facility (CBRF) dementia village setting. This role focuses on person-centered care, promoting dignity, independence, and meaningful engagement. Student Home Assistants support residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), assist with household tasks, contribute to a homelike environment, and actively engage residents in daily routines and meaningful activities.
Key Responsibilities
Assist Residents with Activities of Daily Living
  • Review resident care plan and plan day according to assigned household.
  • Assist with ambulation, mobility, and transferring to/from sitting and standing.
  • Assist residents with bathroom functions like toileting and incontinence care.
  • Assist residents with eating and drinking as needed.
  • Assist residents with showering and dressing, when scheduled.
  • Distribute medications as delegated by the dementia village registered nurse in compliance with DHS83 regulations.
  • Observe and report changes in resident condition to nursing or supervisory staff
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with facility policy and resident care plan
  • Daily housekeeping and laundry
  • Administer medications as directed by Physician

Be a Supportive Companion to Residents
  • Socialize and engage with residents over games, looking at photos, reading, and other activities.
  • Assist with setting up, offering activities, and ensuring residents participate in scheduled dementia village club activities.
  • Assist residents with grocery shopping.
  • Assist with meal planning and preparation while encouraging resident participation while promoting socialization, autonomy, and purpose
  • Allow Resident to live as normal as a life as possible even though they have a dementia diagnosis.

Other Duties
  • Report unusual incidents to neighborhood leader.
  • Complete mandatory education requirements.
  • Greet internal and external customers in a timely and friendly manner.
  • Participate in monthly drills

You Bring (Qualifications)
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Enrolled in an accredited health program
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA and good academic standing
  • Proof of enrollment, class schedule & transcripts
  • Previous caregiving, homemaking or personal care work preferred but not required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be willing to adhere to DHS83 regulations and training requirements
