To thrive as a Projects Manager, you need strong project management skills, leadership abilities, and a background in business or a related field, often supported by a bachelor's degree or higher. How does a Projects Manager typically balance multiple projects and ensure deadlines are met?

A Projects Manager often oversees several projects simultaneously, which requires strong organizational and prioritization skills. They rely on project management tools, regular progress meetings, and clear communication to track milestones and address potential bottlenecks early. Effective delegation and collaboration with cross-functional teams are also key, as Projects Managers must align resources and expectations while adapting to shifting priorities. This dynamic environment encourages continual learning and offers opportunities to develop leadership and strategic planning abilities.

What is the 80/20 rule for project managers?

The 80/20 rule for project managers suggests that roughly 80% of project results come from 20% of the efforts or tasks. Prioritizing high-impact activities and managing key stakeholders effectively can improve project efficiency and success. This principle helps project managers focus on critical tasks that drive the most value.

What are the 4 types of project managers?

Functional managers work within departments, projectized managers lead dedicated teams, matrix managers balance both functional and project responsibilities, and hybrid combines elements of these approaches. Job description

Create value at TC Transcontinental.

At TC Transcontinental, we've got it made, and that's because of the expertise of our team.

We have been driving innovation since 1976.

Founded 50 years ago and 4,000 employees strong, Transcontinental Inc. (TSX: TCL.A TCL.B), known under the TC Transcontinental brand, is a Canadian retail marketing services company, Canada's largest printer, and the Canadian leader in French-language educational publishing. Driven by the vision of a more informed, educated and prosperous society, TC Transcontinental propels its clients' success across the retail, education, book and information industries. With agility, creativity and boldness, we design and deliver innovative, high-value products and services.

We are looking for a Manager, HSE and Integrations to be responsible for integrating newly acquired companies into TC Transcontinental’s Canadian network. Their primary mandate is to bring sites of varying maturity up to the Corporation’s HSE standards, by deploying corporate programs and supporting local teams throughout the harmonization process.
This role is performed with a high degree of autonomy: the incumbent has significant decision-making latitude to deliver the expected HSE performance results across our plants.

When your actions lead to success:

  • Lead the HSE integration of new acquisitions, ensuring the full transition of sites to TC Transcontinental’s corporate standards.
  • Assess the HSE maturity of newly acquired sites and establish concrete, measurable action plans to address identified gaps.
  • Deploy corporate HSE programs, adapting them to the realities and specific needs of each site.
  • Contribute to due diligence activities during acquisition projects, in support of the head office which leads these efforts.
  • Conduct rigorous risk assessments and identify intervention priorities.
  • Plan and conduct HSE audits and inspections at integrating sites, monitor corrective action plans and measure the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Support plant management and local teams in delivering training and developing HSE competencies.
  • Collaborate closely with operations teams, human resources and corporate functions to ensure consistency of practices.

When your expertise drives us:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (industrial relations, occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, engineering or related discipline).
  • 6 to 10 years of HSE experience, including significant experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Bilingualism in French and English (spoken and written) is essential, in order to collaborate with stakeholders across Canada.
  • Availability for frequent travel during post-acquisition integration phases.

Assets

  • Experience managing integration projects, particularly in a mergers and acquisitions context.
  • Recognized professional certification (CRSP or equivalent).

Key competencies

  • Leadership and ability to influence in a decentralized environment.
  • Strong rigor and analytical mindset.
  • Proven change management skills.
  • Collaborative spirit and partnership-oriented approach.
  • Marked autonomy, sense of initiative and results orientation.

What we offer

  • Significant decision-making autonomy, in a role where performance and operational results are valued.
  • The opportunity to contribute directly to TC Transcontinental’s growth and to the successful integration of new businesses.
  • A comprehensive pension plan and benefits program.
  • Group insurance covering health, dental and life.
  • A generous vacation and leave policy.
  • An Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP).
  • Concrete opportunities for continuing education and professional development.

When benefits really help you live better:

We offer a comprehensive and flexible benefits package designed to support your well-being and help you thrive—at work and at home. Our offerings include:

  • Competitive compensation with performance-based incentives and retirement savings plans with company match
  • Customizable group benefits including health, dental, life, disability, and travel insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Employee perks such as discounts on insurance, wireless plans, travel, and more
  • Career development opportunities
  • A dynamic, inclusive work environment where your voice matters and your growth is supported

TC Transcontinental is committed to fair, transparent, and equitable hiring practices. We disclose that no artificial intelligence (AI) tools or automated decision-making systems are used in our recruitment or selection process.
