Job description

The engineering intern will provide reliability engineering support to Harrington and Nichols Stations and work closely with the engineers at each facility to develop engineering skills to allow the reliable operation and maintenance of power plant equipment. The support will include: overhaul planning, capital projects, troubleshooting of power plant equipment, working with contractors both onsite and offsite.

The intern assists with SAP work order creation and other paperwork preparation such as one-pagers used to request funding for various Emergent capital projects. Intern will also support pulling and updating drawings by learning the use of Projectwise software.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
* Emergent Project Funding
* Sourcing and Ordering Materials
* Entering New Planned Capital Projects
* Attending Safety Meetings
* Working with Plant Crews
* Unit Overhaul Support

This position is for a May 31, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel Energy's business needs.

Minimum Requirements:
- Current student, Sophomore or higher (as of Fall 2027)
- Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in any Engineering major. Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Environmental Engineering majors would be preferred.
- Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.
