Job description

Job Description:

Provides professional, technical, research, sampling, data collection, basic labor, and administrative work on a variety of projects within the DPW. Projects could involve any aspect of DPW functions, including horizontal (water, sewer, roads, recreational areas, etc.), vertical (buildings and structures), marine infrastructure, and solid waste management. Duties include conducting research, data collection, performing evaluations, planning, design, construction inspection, survey, contracting, and contract management; all other related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field required; up to three (3) years of experience in engineering, survey, or construction preferred; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Class D drivers license required.

Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam certificate preferred.

Ability to obtain Drinking Water and Wastewater operator licenses as required by the specific Project Engineer position held within the DPW.

Additional Qualifications:

Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering, the design standards, methods, techniques, materials and equipment involved with the maintenance, repair and construction of DPW related projects (roads, water, sewer, etc.). Knowledge of state and local regulations pertaining to the design, construction, and repair of DPW infrastructure. Some knowledge of state and local procurement regulations and policies.

Ability to prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates and contract documents for construction projects. Ability to write and communicate effectively, prepare reports and maintain accurate records. Ability to work independently, respond to difficult and sensitive public inquiries and maintain tactfulness and courtesy in high stress situations. Ability to maintain accurate records, operate a computer, including word processing and spreadsheet applications. Ability to work in a close-knit, team environment.

Proficiency in the use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database, and engineering, drafting and design software. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with individuals and groups.
