Job description

Project Surveyor | Billings, MT or Bozeman, MT

IMEG is hiring a Project Surveyor in Billings or Bozeman MT, to provide production surveying support by applying diversified knowledge of land surveying principles and practices. In this role, you'll support survey calculations and apply surveying judgment based on documented practices and examples, with work reviewed by a Senior Survey Coordinator or Senior Land Surveyor.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Perform complex survey duties for construction stakeout and boundary, topographic, and as-built surveys
  • Research historic maps, land records, previous surveys, and land title reports
  • Complete boundary reductions and mapping/topographic field reductions using CAD/survey software
  • Download, maintain, and verify the accuracy of project survey data; manage the survey database
  • Review survey production and final products, processed data collection, and field notes for quality control
  • Prepare survey computations, staking/control exhibits, and survey crew instructions for construction staking and field survey projects
  • Operate and assist with GPS equipment, total stations, levels, data collectors, and other survey equipment
  • Lead CAD Techs in preparing plans and plats describing in detail the surveys performed
  • Maintain professional and productive working relationships with clients and coworkers
  • Mentor and assist in training junior staff members
  • Operate a company vehicle and observe safety and security procedures

Required Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor of Science (BS) or Associates Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
6 years of experience minimum required in the Surveying and Construction Industry
Land Surveyor (LS) or equivalent required
Advanced knowledge of land surveying operations, computations, principles and practices
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering plans and construction documents
Knowledge and ability to deal with public and governmental agencies, manage field crews, and schedule equipment and supplies
Proficient in on-site office operation, office workflow processes and problem-solving techniques
Advanced understanding of office workflow processes and problem-solving techniques
Advanced understanding of survey operations and identification of potential problems
Proficient with AutoCAD C3D, survey, GPS, MS Office software
Problem solving techniques
Possesses oral and written communication skills
Ability to effectively communicate with clients, officials, contractors, coworkers and professionally represent IMEG
Valid driver's license with ability to be insured by IMEG carrier; must consent to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background check
Proficient in Microsoft and MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays
