About the Role

MWH is currently seeking a qualified Project Safety Manager to support critical water, wastewater, and advanced water treatment plant projects for both municipal and industrial clients. The position will be based out of the Gresham, Oregon area.

Essential Functions

  • Provide guidance and assistance to Operations in establishing and maintaining safety operations in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and best practices.
  • Administer, direct and manage compliance with the project to ensure safety goals are met.
  • Provide a strategic vision for creating safe work areas for affected employees and general public.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of potential risks on projects and identifies controls/mitigation measures.
  • Perform inspections and audit project sites periodically with an emphasis on hazard recognition, unsafe behaviors, and corrective measures & implementation interface with clients, employees and subcontractors ensuring safety programs and specifications are met.
  • Supervise, develop and manage other safety professionals to ensure effective administration of accident prevention efforts.
  • Develop and deliver training resources. Leverage 3rd party training resources when necessary. Develop required training matrix associated with hazards and in line with project schedule.
  • Development and implementation of work exposure control plans. Understanding of IH sampling methods to support regulatory compliance with established PELs.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience on a construction site; ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures as needed; advanced knowledge of local, state and federal regulations, including OSHA; advanced knowledge of consensus standards, including NIOSH, ANSI, ASTM and NFPA standards.
  • 4-year occupational safety/health degree or engineering/science degree.
  • Thorough understanding of construction methods and federal, state, health and safety standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with and provide H&S direction to management and field personnel.
  • Prior experience managing direct reports in a construction environment.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, and other computer applications.

  • CHST, CSP and/or CIH preferred.
