Summary:

The Senior Project Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing a portfolio of projects, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives, and mentoring Project Managers and Project Coordinators. The Senior Project Manager provides strategic oversight, advanced problem-solving, and leadership across multiple projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety, quality, and client satisfaction.

Beyond project delivery, the Senior Project Manager acts as a role model and culture carrier, promoting positive behaviors throughout the organization, fostering collaboration, and inspiring the next generation of project leaders.

The Senior Project Manager will report directly to theProject Director.

Location:Clearway's Regional Office - Surrey, BC. This role will require frequent visits to Job Sites located across the Lower Mainland.

Hours of Operations:8:00 am to 5:00 pm


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Program & Portfolio Management:

  • Oversee a portfolio of projects, ensuring strategic alignment with company goals.
  • Provide high-level oversight of project planning, execution, and delivery across multiple teams.
  • Monitor performance of all assigned projects, ensuring consistent delivery standards.
  • Identify and manage interdependencies between projects and programs.
  • Establish metrics and dashboards to track program health, risks, and progress.


Leadership & Mentorship:

  • Act as a role model, promoting integrity, professionalism, and positive behavior throughout the organization.
  • Mentor and coach junior Project Managers and Project Coordinators, helping them develop technical and leadership skills.
  • Manage direct reports, including Project Coordinators, providing performance feedback and career development guidance.
  • Cultivate an environment of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
  • Inspire younger staff by demonstrating best practices in communication, leadership, and technical project management.


Advanced Project & Contract Management:

  • Lead complex projects and provide guidance on contractual and legal matters.
  • Review and approve high-value contracts, subcontracts, and procurement strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and safety requirements across the portfolio.
  • Apply advanced project management tools and techniques to optimize delivery.
  • Support claims management, contractual negotiations, and dispute resolution.


Risk Assessment & Problem-Solving:

  • Demonstrate extraordinary skills in assessing project and program risks.
  • Troubleshoot issues and resolve conflicts that could impact schedule, budget, or quality.
  • Develop proactive strategies to minimize risks and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Support teams in critical decision-making under pressure.


Stakeholder & Business Relations:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and consultants.
  • Serve as a trusted representative of the organization with civil servants, regulatory authorities, and members of the public.
  • Lead negotiations with clients and partners to secure favorable outcomes and ensure business continuity.
  • Foster repeat business through professionalism, trust, and exceptional service delivery.


Financial & Performance Oversight:

  • Oversee project budgets across the portfolio, ensuring financial objectives are met.
  • Review estimates, forecasts, and financial reports for accuracy and alignment.
  • Ensure financial risks are identified and mitigated early.
  • Provide executive-level reporting on portfolio performance, risks, and opportunities.


Culture & Organizational Development:

  • Promote a culture of safety, collaboration, and professional pride.
  • Encourage innovation in project delivery methods and tools.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, training sessions, and industry events.
  • Contribute to business development by identifying new opportunities and fostering partnerships.


Requirements:

  • Engineering Degree (Civil Engineering preferred), or a Construction Management Degree with Civil Construction experience; Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, P.Eng., GSC, PQS, CCM) considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of construction experience is required;
  • Proven track record in program or portfolio management within the construction or infrastructure industry.
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in highly demanding and time sensitive situations is essential;
  • Adept at multi-tasking and prioritizing
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire, mentor, and develop teams
  • Superior communication skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels
  • Familiarity with construction contracts, union agreements, and applicable legislation
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and decision-making skills.

  • Valid British Columbia Drivers Licence
  • Proficient in the English language (written and oral) with strong inter-personal and communication skills
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada - no work permit sponsorship is available for this position

Salary Range: $160,000 - $185,000 (CAD)
