Job description

The Interior Design Project Manager oversees interior design components for both renovation and new construction projects, working on initiatives led by Park District staff as well as external consultants and contractors. With a blend of design expertise and operational leadership, the position ensures that spaces are thoughtfully planned, efficiently delivered, and aligned with organizational goals. This role places a strong emphasis on project management, guiding complex design initiatives from concept through completion while coordinating internal teams, external partners, and key stakeholders.

The ideal candidate brings strong project management expertise, clear communication skills, and a collaborative approach to guiding complex interior design initiatives. They thrive in balancing timelines, budgets, and stakeholder needs to produce highquality, sustainable interior environments.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Coordination and Leadership

  • Evaluates project requests, determines timelines and resources, selects furnishings and finishes, and adapts to evolving budget parameters.
  • Leads assigned design projects from initial design phases through final installation.
  • Measures interior spaces, develops design concepts, and communicates clearly across all levels of the organization.
  • Sets professional standards, directs internal teams and external contractors, and ensures momentum throughout the design and construction process.

Budget Management, Procurement, and Installation

  • Manages selection, bidding, ordering, deliveries, and installation of furnishings, fixtures, finishes, and equipment.
  • Exercises independent judgement while adhering to purchasing policies and budget constraints.
  • Maintains cost records, reviews estimates, coordinates bidding, and navigates construction delays or material shortages to keep projects on time and within budget.

Design Strategy

  • Stays current on design trends, color palettes, sustainability practices, and innovative solutions to create cohesive, functional interior environments.
  • Travels throughout the Park District to manage design aspects, conduct meetings, and select materials from regional vendors.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in project management, interior design, business administration or a related field
  • Minimum five years of experience in interior design, accounting, governmental procurement, and project coordination
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and directly transferable experience will be considered

Qualifications:

  • Strong project management capabilities, including the ability to plan, organize, and execute multiple projects simultaneously
  • Working knowledge of space planning, presentation boards, ADA standards, reading blueprints, and construction trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC
  • Strong relationship-building skills and effective communication with employees, contractors, and the public
  • Strong business acumen, including problem solving, decision making, leadership, organization, accuracy and report development
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Adobe applications
  • Knowledge of sustainability practices and Green Certification initiatives
  • Valid driver's license

Work Days: Monday - Friday with occasional evenings and weekends to support operational needs

Work Location(s): During the initial onboarding period, this position will divide time between the Strongsville Management Center and the Ohio & Erie Canal Management Center. Upon completion of training, the role will transition to being primarily based at the Ohio & Erie Canal Management Center (6100 W Canal Rd., Valley View, OH 44125)
