Summary of Responsibilities

Once new projects transition out of the Sales/Design and scope of work development phase, the Designer will utilize their skills to take projects through the primary design phase, into Production, and will monitor the integrity of the approved designs through the renovation phase. Following the standard at Karlovec & Company, the Designer will honor the customer by communicating frequently, clearly, and effectively. The Designer, taking advantage of the collaborative environment, will proactively work with the team to perfect their designs and serve the customer.

Essential Functions

Design Development

  • Collaborate with team members and clients to translate goals, measurements, and design requirements into innovative solutions.
  • Create initial drafts and finalize designs using 2D and 3D sketching tools.
  • Design kitchens, bathrooms, additions and various living spaces aligned with client budgets and preferences.
  • Research and integrate products and artistic elements to enhance designs.
  • Ensure all designs meet manufacturer guidelines and comply with building codes.
  • Drawings, Drafting and Documentation
  • Perform field measurements and document site details to inform design accuracy.
  • Produce comprehensive drawings, including plan views, elevations, renderings, and construction documents for all project phases.
  • Organize and maintain design reports, updates, and task tracking to meet project deadlines.

Client Experience

  • Conduct space assessments and plan layouts, materials, and allowance selections with clients in their homes and in showrooms.
  • Host showroom visits and guide clients in selecting finishes, materials, and fixtures.
  • Present 3D renderings and ensure designs align with homeowner expectations.
  • Collaboration and Support
  • Partner with the production team to provide detailed drawings, permits, material lists, and specifications within project timelines.
  • Assist sales by contributing to the Design and Planning Agreement, especially in material and appliance selection.
  • Populate job binders with finalized drawings and specifications to ensure seamless handoff to production.

Administrative Duties

  • Prepare and review orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with manufacturer and vendor acknowledgments.
  • Communicate progress on design tasks, identifying and resolving delays as needed.
  • Update reports and ensure all design-related tasks are completed effectively and on schedule.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience with 2 years in residential remodeling
  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Drafting or equivalent experience; NKBA certification, education, or related experience is a plus
  • Drawing expertise using Chief Architect, CAD or CAD based software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Superior active listening skills
  • Ability to effectively, and accurately, communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to clearly and logically communicate about kitchen and bath products, as well as the design process
  • A commitment to life-long learning and professional development
