This is a field-focused leadership role for construction professionals who thrive in fast-paced industrial environments and have experience managing multidisciplinary scopes in active construction settings.

You will work alongside experienced construction professionals delivering technically challenging mining and industrial projects while benefiting from a rotational schedule designed to support both strong compensation and long-term sustainability.

  • Long-term career growth opportunities
  • Exposure to large-scale mining and industrial infrastructure projects

This role delivers heavy execution-driven leadership directly in the field, combined with project setup and planning support, offering a dynamic mix of environments. Our work arrangements are designed to support both strong annual compensation and long-term sustainability for our people and their families.

Typical work arrangements for this role include:Field-facing site presence during key execution phases to align teams and keep project timelines moving seamlessly.Travel to remote project sites across Canada, with select assignments in the United States depending on project needs.Adaptable rotation schedules (including local site-based, rotational/FIFO, or hybrid) tailored to the specific assignment.

Position Overview

The Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and driving execution performance across mining civil construction scopes. This role will work closely with client representatives, contractors, superintendents, and MineSpec support teams to manage scope, schedule, budget, risk, and reporting.

Unlike a traditional corporate project management role, this position is primarily field-facing and execution-driven, with strong integration across project controls, engineering, procurement, and site operations. Depending on the project and client structure, assignments may include both owner's team support and contractor-facing delivery support.

Typical Scopes Supported

The successful candidate will manage and deliver projects across multiple civil and earthworks areas:

  • Tailings Infrastructure: Starter dams, raises, embankments, liner interface coordination, and associated water management works.
  • Haul Roads & Access Roads: Clearing/grubbing, earthworks, drainage, aggregate placement, surfacing, and winter roads (where applicable).
  • Water Management: Diversions, ditches, culverts, sediment ponds, dewatering coordination, and pumping systems (civil interface).
  • Bulk Earthworks: Mass excavation, open-pit development, fill placement, compaction control, pads, laydown areas, and plant/site grading.
  • Rock Excavation & Drill-and-Blast Interface: Coordination-level integration with the overall earthworks plan.
  • Civil Infrastructure: Foundations prep, concrete interface coordination, and minor structures/temporary works as required.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead project execution for mining civil and earthworks scopes, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
  • Act as a key interface between client and contractor(s), supporting coordination, decision-making, and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate multiple work fronts and subcontractors, including bulk earthworks, rock excavation, drill-and-blast interfaces, roadworks, water management, and tailings-related civil works.
  • Develop and manage project plans, look-ahead schedules, construction work packages, and constraint logs.
  • Oversee and contribute to project controls functions including progress measurement, quantity tracking, cost trending, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Support change management through the identification, documentation, pricing support, and schedule/cost impact analysis of changes.
  • Track risks and opportunities; implement mitigation plans and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements; reinforce a zero-harm culture.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, logistics, and expediting to maintain field readiness and material/equipment availability.
  • Lead regular coordination meetings, progress reviews, and stakeholder updates with clear action tracking and follow-through.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
What We're Looking For

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate extensive experience working on the General Contractor side of heavy civil earthworks or mining construction projects. MineSpec was built around experienced construction professionals from Tier 1 General Contractors, and we place significant value on candidates who bring practical field execution expertise.

  • Experience: Minimum 8-10 years of construction experience with progressive responsibility in project management (mining or heavy civil preferred).
  • Sector Exposure: Demonstrated experience delivering bulk earthworks / mine civil scopes in active operations or major capital projects.
  • Project Controls: Strong understanding of project controls fundamentals: scheduling, quantity tracking, progress measurement, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Contract Administration: Working knowledge of contract administration and change management (RFIs, field instructions, change orders, claims support).
  • Leadership & Influence: Proven leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to operate in high-accountability environments.
  • Safety & Compliance: Strong safety leadership and a practical understanding of environmental compliance on civil construction sites.
  • Travel & Eligibility: Eligibility to work in Canada is required; eligibility and willingness to travel for work in the USA is an asset (project-dependent).
Education & Experience

The following educational and experience backgrounds will be considered:

  • Engineering / Tech: Post-secondary education in engineering (mining or civil), construction management, or related discipline is an asset.
  • Experience-Based Paths: Trade-based leadership backgrounds or progressive field-acquired project leadership experience gained through successful project delivery.

MineSpec recognizes that exceptional project leaders come from a variety of career paths. We value practical field experience, schedule/budget ownership, and execution capability above purely theoretical knowledge.

Work Arrangement

This role combines operational planning, client coordination, and on-site execution management, requiring flexibility in work location based on active assignments.

  • Travel Commitments: Travel to project sites and flexibility in work location based on active assignments is required. Full eligibility to travel for work across Canada and potentially the USA is needed.
  • Rotational Structure: Rotations, schedules, and travel requirements vary by project (e.g., local site-based, rotational/FIFO, or hybrid).
  • Environment: Candidates must be completely comfortable operating within remote locations and demanding field environments typical of mining civil construction.
How to Apply

Please submit your resume outlining:

  • Relevant mining civil / earthworks construction experience.
  • Exposure to specific civil scopes such as tailings dam construction and drill & blast operations.
  • Experience with project controls, scheduling, budgeting, and leading field execution teams.
  • Experience interfacing directly with Owners, EPCMs, and General Contractors.
  • History working in remote, rotational, or FIFO environments.
