Job Summary:

As the Fiber Splicer, you will ultimately be responsible for splicing, testing, and maintaining fiber optic communication systems while supporting aerial and underground construction activities. You will install, troubleshoot, and certify fiber optic networks and deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality telecommunications infrastructure. As the Fiber Splicer, your customers are broadband providers, telecommunications clients, and internal construction teams, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through quality workmanship, technical expertise, and timely project delivery.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

  • Read and interpret work orders, engineering drawings, specifications, and cut sheets to determine work sequence
  • Repair existing fiber lines and splice new fiber as required to complete project testing and certification
  • Install passive and active devices, enclosures, and terminal panels
  • Test fiber optic systems for continuity and balanced signal between connection points
  • Pull fiber optic cable through existing duct systems manually, mechanically, or by blowing methods, and splice and activate underground and aerial fiber systems
  • Optimize new nodes and complete node splits to improve network capacity
  • Utilize OTDR, light meters, and other fiber testing equipment to verify signal quality and troubleshoot issues
  • Safely operate bucket trucks or climb utility poles to place and maintain fiber optic cable in accordance with system design
  • Complete production documentation, verify signal levels following activation, and perform troubleshooting as required
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with customer requirements and applicable governmental regulations
  • Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of fiber optic splicing experience
  • Experience with aerial and underground fiber optic construction
  • Experience testing and certifying fiber optic communication systems

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work orders, specifications, and cut sheets
  • Proficiency using OTDR, light meters, and other fiber optic testing equipment
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and adapt to new processes
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to lift and/or pull up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools including screwdrivers, pliers, drills, and wrenches
  • Commitment to safe work practices and regulatory compliance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating bucket trucks and other aerial work platforms
  • Experience supporting broadband, cable television, or telecommunications infrastructure projects

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb utility poles, and work at heights for extended periods
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to safely operate bucket trucks and aerial work platforms
  • Ability to travel as business needs require
