Job Summary:

NTI is seeking a Traveling Foreman with will lead a team, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to customer quality standards while performing advanced fiber optic splicing and testing tasks. This role requires national travel to various project sites and combines leadership, project management, and technical expertise in fiber optic infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure project safety, quality, schedule, and cost compliance with company/client standards.
  • Lead 2-3 crew members, optimizing skills and equipment use.
  • Act as primary liaison between Project Manager and crew.
  • Interpret customer prints to plan tasks and schedule work.
  • Hold daily pre-work meetings to align on goals and safety.
  • Verify construction and splicing work meets standards.
  • Complete phase-specific closeout documentation.
  • Document job progress with photos.
  • Maintain company equipment (vehicles, trailers, test tools).
  • Perform precise fusion and mid-sheath splicing on high-count fiber cables (864ct, 1728ct, 3456ct).
  • Conduct live fiber splicing during maintenance windows to minimize disruptions.
  • Install fiber optic cables in various environments (underground, aerial, indoor).
  • Execute OTDR/OLTS testing to assess cable performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve live network fiber issues.
  • Produce FastReporter reports for test and splicing documentation.
  • Operate Fujikura splicers and EXFO testers for low-loss splices and diagnostics.
  • Pull fiber cables through conduits/ducts for installations.
  • Support cabinet bolting and basket tray installation (preferred).
  • Safely operate scissor lifts for elevated work (preferred).
  • Maintain a clean workspace and follow proper handling procedures for fiber optic materials and equipment.
  • Comply with OSHA, IBEW Local, and NTI safety standards

Work Schedule and Environment:

  • Work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, adapting to project requirements.
  • Perform tasks during daytime and occasional nighttime maintenance windows as required by client schedules.
  • Stand for extended periods (8-10 hours per day) and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.

Experience and Education:

  • 5+ years of experience in the telecommunications industry with related experience in construction and tower work.
  • 2-3 years of verifiable experience splicing and testing fiber optic cables for dark fiber providers (e.g., Zayo), meeting stringent quality and performance standards.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience using Fujikura fusion splicing machines for high-count fiber splicing (864ct, 1728ct, 3456ct).
  • 3+ years of experience performing OTDR and OLTS testing with EXFO testing equipment.
  • 2+ years of experience producing Fast Reporter reports for network documentation.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Proven ability to perform mid-sheath (ring-cut) splicing and live fiber network splicing with minimal service disruption.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving issues on live/active network fiber.
  • Familiarity with cable pulling, cabinet bolting, basket tray installation, and scissor lift operation (preferred).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills for effective team and client interactions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) for documentation and reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to pass a clean background check and drug screen.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Fluency in English for effective communication.
  • Certification in fiber optic splicing or testing (e.g., FOA CFOT, BICSI, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Prior experience with major telecommunications carriers or dark fiber providers beyond Zayo preferred.
  • Familiarity with additional fiber optic testing tools or software beyond EXFO and FastReporter preferred.
