Overview

The Clinical Research Manager will oversee day-to-day operations of Dr. Olubukola Nafiuโ€™s Anesthesiology Research Lab, leading a team of medical students, research associates, and research fellows. The position serves as the central liaison between the lab, the Department of Anesthesiology, and external collaborators from other departments and institutions. Is responsible for the administration and execution of a broad portfolio of research projects, including federally funded, investigator-initiated, and industry-sponsored studies. Duties include coordinating study design and implementation, maintaining regulatory compliance (IRB, FDA, and multicenter requirements), and ensuring adherence to study protocols. Additional responsibilities include identifying and recruiting eligible patients, obtaining informed consent, conducting interviews, overseeing sample collection and processing, and maintaining accurate data collection and entry. Will train and supervise research and clinical staff on study procedures, monitor research compliance and adverse event reporting, and prepare progress reports and regulatory documentation. This position manages a team of 6โ€“7 lab members, providing onboarding, mentorship, and performance oversight. Must be flexible with work hours to accommodate study needs and available for occasional travel for multicenter meetings, site visits, or training sessions.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and monitor multicenter implementation of projects together with other key study personnel.
  • Collect and accurately record data and outcomes for research.
  • Manage study implementation at Montefiore and other sites.
  • Coordinate efforts with other key personnel at Montefiore to be able to provide study coverage as needed.
  • Oversee patient screening and consent.
  • Implement subject enrollment.
  • Monitor and assess the health status of assigned subjects.
  • Perform data entry for ongoing projects.
  • Ensure implementation of research protocols.
  • Establish and maintain communication with professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Ensure clinical research records are available and appropriate for the protocols.
  • Ensure correct IRB process adherence and other regulatory paperwork and administration.
  • Collect and record basic quality assurance data for patients.
  • Assist the principal investigator(s) in the design and execution of research and analysis of the data.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors policies and procedures relative to the clinical trials unit which are aligned with departmental and Medical Center policies and procedures. Orients staff to same.
  • In conjunction with the PI, write research submissions, formulate the research budget, and prepare IRB paperwork.
  • Liaison with IRB, NIH, FDA, to ensure that all necessary information is presented as required for research approval process.
  • Oversees team of medical students, research associates and research fellows.
Requirements
  • PhD Preferred.
  • MD Preferred.
  • MS Required.
  • 2 years of clinical research experience โ€“ Preferred.
  • Computer literacy and competency with e-mail Outlook, internet search, MS Excel and MS Word.
  • Experience with electronic data entry and retrieval systems.
  • Experience with statistical analyses and coding.
  • Clinical research experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills to problem-solving and clinical decision making for expected and unexpected problems.
  • Responsible and accountable for own practice.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients/involved others.
  • Medical Degree Upon Hire Preferred.
  • Post Doctoral Degree Upon Hire Preferred.
