Position Overview

The Senior Sales Manager will be responsible for driving regional revenue growth while leading and developing a high-performing sales team. This role requires a hands-on sales leader who combines strong business development expertise with effective people management. The successful candidate must have a proven history of consistently achieving or exceeding sales targets, developing strategic customer relationships, and leading sales teams to deliver measurable business results. Candidates should be able to demonstrate previous sales performance and leadership accomplishments.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a regional sales team to achieve and exceed individual and team sales goals.
  • Establish clear sales objectives, monitor performance metrics, and hold team members accountable for achieving revenue targets.
  • Conduct regular pipeline reviews, forecasting meetings, performance evaluations, and coaching sessions.
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop top-performing sales professionals.
  • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused, and results-driven sales culture while leading by example through active selling and customer engagement.

Business Development & Sales Strategy

  • Develop and execute regional sales and business development strategies aligned with company growth objectives.
  • Identify potential markets, new business opportunities, and competitive trends within the biotechnology and life sciences industries.
  • Generate new business through prospecting, networking, industry conferences, referrals, strategic partnerships, email campaigns, and outbound phone outreach.
  • Promote Synbio Technologies' DNA/RNA synthesis, sequencing, gene editing, antibody, protein, peptide, and biological synthesis services by effectively communicating the value and benefits of our technologies.
  • Collaborate with senior management to develop strategic sales initiatives that drive sustainable revenue growth.

Client Relationship Management

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers, ensuring a deep understanding of their research objectives and business needs.
  • Identify target clients including research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies, synthetic biology companies, IVD companies, CROs, CDMOs, and biotech startups.
  • Analyze customer activities, challenges, and opportunities to provide customized solutions that maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Identify and capitalize on cross-selling and upselling opportunities across Synbio Technologies' service portfolio.

Strategic Partnerships & Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Develop partnerships with key industry stakeholders, academic institutions, and research organizations.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing, Technical Support, Product Management, and Operations to deliver tailored customer solutions.
  • Work with internal teams to ensure successful project execution and exceptional customer experience.

Contract Negotiation & Sales Operations

  • Manage the proposal process, pricing discussions, contract negotiations, and deal closure to achieve revenue objectives.
  • Maintain accurate customer information, sales activities, opportunity pipelines, and forecasts within the CRM system (HubSpot or equivalent).
  • Provide regular reports on sales activities, pipeline status, conversion rates, forecasts, and KPIs to senior management.
  • Continuously monitor sales performance and implement improvement strategies based on data and market intelligence.
  • Engage in continuous learning to maintain strong technical knowledge of Synbio Technologies' products, services, and emerging industry trends.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful sales, business development, or strategic account management experience within biotechnology, life sciences, genomics, synthetic biology, CRO, CDMO, or related industries.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of sales management or sales team leadership experience, with demonstrated success leading and developing high-performing sales teams.
  • Documented track record of consistently achieving or exceeding individual sales quotas and revenue goals. Candidates should be prepared to provide measurable sales performance results, such as quota attainment, revenue growth, territory expansion, major account acquisitions, or other key sales achievements.
  • Proven ability to build long-term customer relationships and close complex sales opportunities.
  • Strong understanding of the synthetic biology industry, including DNA/RNA technologies, genomics, molecular biology, and related research services.
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and capable of working independently while effectively leading a team.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the Northeast Region as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Established professional network within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, academic, and life sciences organizations.
