Description

Volunteer Engagement Coordinator

Atlanta, GA | Development | Full-Time

Connect People to Purpose Through Meaningful Service.

Jewish Family & Career Services of Atlanta (JF&CS) is seeking an organized, relationship-driven Volunteer Engagement Coordinator to support the day-to-day operations of the agency's volunteer engagement program. This role helps recruit, welcome, support, and retain volunteers while ensuring volunteer experiences are clear, meaningful, and aligned with agency needs.

With a 125-year history of supporting individuals and families of all faiths, JF&CS is a trusted community resource. The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator plays an important role in helping community members connect to JF&CS through service, events, programs, and ongoing engagement.

The north star for this role is simple: make it easy and rewarding for volunteers to contribute their time, talents, and energy in ways that strengthen JF&CS programs and deepen community impact.

The Role at a Glance

  • Reports to the Manager, Volunteer and Community Engagement
  • Supports agency-wide volunteer recruitment, onboarding, screening, and engagement
  • Partners with program staff to match volunteers with meaningful opportunities
  • Maintains volunteer records, communications, data, and administrative systems
  • Provides logistical support for volunteer activities, events, appreciation efforts, and special projects
  • Hybrid schedule with at least three days per week in the office and occasional evening or weekend commitments

This is a highly collaborative role for someone who enjoys both people-centered work and behind-the-scenes coordination. Some days you'll be communicating with volunteers, supporting an event, or helping a program team fill a need. Other days you'll be updating records, preparing materials, tracking engagement data, or improving systems that help volunteers and staff succeed.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Volunteer Coordination & Engagement

  • Help administer the agency's volunteer program in alignment with Volunteer team and agency priorities
  • Recruit, onboard, and screen new volunteers in accordance with program requirements and agency standards
  • Work with the Manager, Volunteer and Community Engagement and program managers to match volunteers with opportunities that fit their skills, interests, and availability
  • Assess program needs and support timely outreach to fulfill staff volunteer requests
  • Build positive relationships with volunteers that support engagement, appreciation, and long-term commitment
  • Support ongoing staff and volunteer training, reminders, and use of the volunteer database

Systems, Communications & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate volunteer records and help identify ways to make volunteer systems more efficient
  • Use volunteer engagement data to support reporting, follow-up, and program planning
  • Collect and track monthly volunteer engagement data for reporting purposes
  • Create and update volunteer communications, registration forms, and outreach materials using tools such as Mailchimp, JotForm, and Canva in collaboration with Marketing
  • Attend and take minutes for Volunteer Engagement or committee meetings as needed
  • Assist with the Volunteer Engagement team's monthly expense reports by organizing and uploading receipts in a timely manner

Events & Special Projects

  • Provide programmatic and logistical support for volunteer activities and events, including family, young professional, Kay Family Leadership Series, holiday financial assistance, and other volunteer initiatives
  • Support agency events by coordinating needed volunteers and providing logistical assistance
  • Help plan and implement volunteer engagement events and initiatives such as Family Volunteer Days, Hunger Walk, Mitzvah Day, Recognition Days, and Volunteer Appreciation Month activities
  • Attend volunteer and agency events as required, including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Assist with the annual Holiday Gift Program for families
  • Oversee annual MVR checks and support additional projects as assigned

Requirements

You are:

  • Relationship-oriented and energized by helping people connect to meaningful service
  • Organized, detail-focused, and able to manage multiple priorities at once
  • A strong communicator who is responsive, professional, and welcoming
  • A collaborative teammate who can work effectively with volunteers, staff, and community partners
  • Comfortable handling confidential information with discretion
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic and commitment to continuous learning

You have:

  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholder needs
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn volunteer database systems
  • Ability to work in an office environment and directly with volunteers in the broader Atlanta community
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods during presentations, meetings, or volunteer days

You bring:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in a nonprofit environment, preferably involving volunteers, fundraising, events, community engagement, or related work
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed

Why JF&CS?

At JF&CS, volunteer engagement is more than coordination; it is connection, belonging, and impact. You'll help create welcoming and well-organized experiences that allow volunteers to support individuals, families, and programs across the Atlanta community.

What We Offer:

  • Up to 20 days of paid time off (PTO) annually, prorated in the first year
  • Paid holidays
  • Comprehensive Health, Vision, and Dental insurance
  • 401(k) with employer matching
  • Paid parental leave

Candidates selected for employment must successfully complete a pre-employment background screening and drug screening. Employment is contingent upon satisfactory results for both. In addition, tuberculosis (TB) testing and fingerprinting may be required, as applicable.

We embrace our employees' unique qualities, which fuel interest, innovation, and business success.
