Job description

Materials Testing Consultants (MTC) is a multi-disciplinary firm with primary services in construction materials testing, geotechnical engineering, and environmental consulting. Co-op students at MTC have the opportunity to specialize in one area or rotate through the different departments to complete work in the field or lab, prepare reports with engineers and project managers, and gain hands-on experience in the industry.
In this role, students will travel to project sites to perform field tests, and upon accurate completion of the tests, the results will be documented and communicated to client field representatives. Reports are then submitted for review and processing. With guidance from our Project Manager and Project Engineers, the intern will assist with deficiency resolution.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform soil, concrete, asphalt and masonry testing.
  • Complete daily report of observation and accurately record test results.
  • Monitor work procedures for compliance with project specifications.
  • Professional communication with client representatives (supervisor, foremen, project managers, engineers, etc.) at project sites.
  • Recording and communication to the project supervisor and client any deviations from the specifications.
  • Proper maintenance of equipment.
  • Perform other duties or functions as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
  • Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering program.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Must pass drug screen, physical, and background check.
  • Work environment primarily at construction sites with the possibility of challenging terrain and outdoor weather conditions.
  • Regular lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • High ethical standards.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight for nonlocal projects if necessary.
