THE POSITION
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is seeking a dependable Equipment Operator B to support forest maintenance in the Weiser Forest District. In this role, you will help shape and care for roadways, picnic areas, and forest landscapes. You will also assist with wildfire prevention and suppression efforts. Begin a hands-on career that protects natural resources and serves the public.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position supports the upkeep of forest roads, facilities, and natural areas while assisting with wildfire prevention and response. As a Equipment Operator B, you will perform the following duties:
  • Equipment Operation: Operate machinery to grade roads, clear brush, remove snow, and maintain drainage systems
  • Wildfire Response: Assist in detecting, preventing, and suppressing wildfires using proper tools and techniques
  • Equipment Care: Service and maintain assigned equipment and help with major repairs when needed
  • Safety Awareness: Follow safety procedures, report hazards, and support safe working conditions
  • Project Leadership: Lead crews on assigned projects, including seasonal and special work groups
  • Manual Tasks: Perform tasks such as boundary upkeep, building maintenance, tree planting, and forest protection work

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position may require overtime
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Conditions of Employment:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Other Requirements:
