Job Description:
Role Overview
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, monitoring, and successful delivery of large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This role leads cross-functional teams, manages project schedules, budgets, risks, and stakeholder communications, and serves as the central point of coordination between clients, contractors, suppliers, and Fluence project resources.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience managing complex projects within the energy, power, industrial, petrochemical or battery storage sectors. The Senior Project Manager is expected to maintain full project visibility, drive execution, proactively manage risks, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
  • Planning & Execution: Lead the planning and execution of large-scale projects, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource management. Monitor project progress against the master schedule and drive resolution of schedule, cost, and execution risks.

  • Leadership & Team Management: Manage and coordinate cross-functional teams across engineering, procurement, logistics, construction, and commissioning.

  • Communication & Stakeholder Management Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams.

  • Monitoring & Reporting: Track project performance, prepare status updates, and maintain visibility of key deliverables and action items.

  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate project risks, manage escalations, and support issue and claims resolution.

  • Documentation & Compliance Ensure project documentation, reporting, and compliance requirements are maintained.

  • Travel Requirements Travel approximately 15% or as required for project site visits, client meetings and team meetings.

Required Qualifications
  • BS/BA degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience managing large-scale industrial, power, energy, renewable energy, or BESS projects.

  • Proven experience leading cross-functional teams and coordinating multiple stakeholders.

  • Experience managing projects with contract values of approximately $100M+.

  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and influencing skills.

  • Demonstrated success in client-facing project leadership roles.

  • Strong business acumen and commercial awareness.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a matrixed and global organization.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

  • EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) project experience preferred.

  • Power Plant and/or Substation project experience preferred.

  • PMP Certification preferred.

  • Lean or Six Sigma certification preferred.

  • Organizational Skills Strong ability to manage complex schedules, resources, budgets, and project deliverables.

  • Communication Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, clients, contractors, and project teams.

  • Problem Solving Ability to identify project challenges, evaluate options, and implement effective solutions.

  • Technical Proficiency Familiarity with project management tools, methodologies, and project controls processes. Experience using Primavera P6 scheduling software is highly desirable.
