Overview

The successful Project Engineer should be an Engineer in Training (EIT) or be able to obtain EIT within 6 months. Success in this position requires a person who can adapt to a variety of personalities and business conditions and can work within a multidiscipline team. The person must possess skills in problem solving and critical thinking, and must be steadfast in the execution of assigned duties. The person needs to be an effective leader and collaborator with an ability to manage a fleet of Soil/Concrete Technicians, Special Inspectors, and Laboratory staff.

Responsibilities
  • Manages special inspectors and technician staff
  • Manages projects (bridges, roadway, schools, and commercial) and associated geotechnical budgets
  • Prepares and reviews inspection and observation reports submitted to various agencies and other clients.
  • Strong knowledge of soils and foundation characterization and engineering. 
  • Plans, assigns, prioritizes, evaluates, and reviews the work of special inspectors and technicians, and support staff for consistency, accuracy, timeliness, conformance to guidelines, and technical merit.
  • Oversees the preparation and submission of timely reports and maintenance of records
  • Develops, implements, and interprets policies, procedures, and programs for special inspection and testing
  • Communicates, interprets, and keeps current on changes in observation and inspection guidelines and regulations. billings versus budget through regular meetings with Principals.
  • Oversight of all Materials testing on soils, asphalt, and concrete.
  • Oversight of all IBC Special Inspections in accordance with IBC Chapter 17
  • Good driving record, willing to travel
  • Oversight of laboratory qualifications
Qualifications
  • BS in civil engineering with emphasis in materials/geotechnical, a plus
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • CA EIT is preferred
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, think creatively, and problem solve.
  • Reviewing technical specifications and filed/laboratory reports.
  • knowledge of building codes and construction industry standards.
  • Experience with AASHTO and ASTM test methods pertaining to construction materials, including HMA, aggregate, soils, steel, masonry, and concrete.
  • Experience reviewing concrete/asphalt mix designs.
  • Thorough understanding of accreditation policies for all relevant agencies, including AMRL, CCRL, IAS, etc.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

The pay range for this position in California is $100,000 to $130,000 per year. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
