Project Engineer - Transmission Engineering

Job Code: 4783

Location: Oakland, CA, Sacramento, CA, Fresno, CA

Duration: 4 months

Work Arrangement: Hybrid - approximately 1-2 days per week in the office

Travel: Approximately 20% for project-related field visits

Position Overview

We are seeking a Journey-Level Project Engineer with experience in electrical transmission line engineering. The engineer will lead the engineering and design of moderately complex transmission projects while working with minimal supervision.

The role requires strong engineering judgment, technical analysis skills, and the ability to collaborate with engineers, project managers, construction personnel, contractors, vendors, and other business partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering analyses, studies, and conceptual designs.
  • Independently plan and execute engineering work under general direction.
  • Resolve engineering problems using established engineering principles and solutions.
  • Prepare technical documents including design criteria, scopes, specifications, and engineering reports.
  • Conduct field walkdowns and design review meetings.
  • Present engineering findings to internal teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • Develop, evaluate, and recommend alternative project proposals.
  • Solicit, prepare, and evaluate proposals from engineering consultants.
  • Review consultant work and contracts for technical compliance.
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes, regulations, and engineering standards.
  • Review and approve engineering reports, drawings, and drawing revisions.
  • Participate in restoration planning and root cause analysis.
  • Respond to facility failures and support emergency engineering activities.
  • Represent the organization with applicable government agencies for assigned projects.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited U.S. program or equivalent international degree.
  • Minimum 3 years of cumulative engineering and design experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Electrical transmission line engineering experience, particularly 115kV-500kV.
  • Strong knowledge of GO 95, NESC, and transmission line standards and construction practices.
  • Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, or similar transmission line engineering software.
  • Project management experience.
Work Environment

This is a hybrid position requiring work from a remote office and an assigned location within the PG&E service territory. Regular field visits and project-related travel are expected.
