We are seeking a highly skilled Engineer or E.I.T. who will play a critical role in design, project coordination, project optimization, and testing within our OEM equipment manufacturing division.

This position is responsible for collaborating in technical client conversations, pricing efforts, design development, code reviews, specification compliance, equipment certification, equipment testing, guidance for development of construction documents, support during manufacturing, commissioning, and warranty.

The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to review performance components, develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), and implement innovative design solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Demonstrating your extensive knowledge of engineering principles, you will design, develop, optimize and test mechanical components, and equipment of our AHU (air handling units), CDU (cooling distribution units), and MDC (modular data center products).

  • Technical Design:

    • Provide technical design support with a focus on mechanical design engineering. Design custom data center air handling (AHU) and liquid cooling equipment (CDU, pump skids) to client specifications. Develop and test AHU, CDU, and MDC products.

    • Review, design and optimization of equipment in accordance with industry standards, codes, and client specifications.

    • Utilize engineering analysis tools and methodologies to size pumps, fans, piping, and ducting to gather data, evaluate performance metrics, and support decision-making processes.

  • Documentation:

    • Review and preparation of work products including BOM generation and costing, design submittals, reports, drawings, and Engineering Change Requests.

    • Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for design processes and VAVE initiatives to ensure consistency and quality in engineering practices.

  • Testing and Optimization:

    • Work closely with the Project Engineer to develop test specifications for products and assemblies in accordance with company guidelines, industry standards, codes, and client specifications.

    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying best practices and implementing innovative design solutions.

  • Project Coordination and Collaboration:

    • Support Project Engineer with Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives from conception through execution, participating actively in cross-functional meetings to support project timelines and objectives.

    • Take a critical role in project execution and engage in multiple aspects of the business including support for estimating, business development and sales, R&D innovation, production improvements, procurement, marketing, and service.

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams including electrical/controls, manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain to identify opportunities for cost reduction and performance enhancement.

    • Other duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSc. Eng., B.Eng.) or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in design engineering, preferably in at least one of: HVAC design, piping design, heating and cooling systems, OEM equipment manufacturing or related industries. R&D and product development experience is an asset.

  • Strong understanding of VAVE principles and methodologies.

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and present findings to stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deliverables simultaneously, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to data center equipment is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Electrical, Structural, and Controls engineering.

  • Registered with APEGA.

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo, Revit, and FEA. CFD experience is an asset.

  • Experience with HVAC design, liquid piping design, skid design. Product development experience is an asset.

  • Experience with project management or coordination.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.

  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to data center equipment and industrial piping. Familiarity with ASME B31.1, 31.3, or 31.9 is an asset.
