Equinox Engineering Ltd., a leading EPCM firm headquartered in Calgary, specializes in oil and gas processing, providing comprehensive services in facilities design, implementation, and operational support for natural gas, conventional, and heavy oil projects. Our clientele includes major oil and gas producers in Canada and globally, and we are actively engaged in diverse sweet gas, sour gas, conventional oil, heavy oil facility, and pipeline projects.
About the Role
We are in search of a highly proficient Senior Electrical Engineer to become a crucial part of our dynamic team based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In this pivotal role, the successful candidate will take the lead in driving the design and implementation of electrical engineering projects, with a specific focus on the oil and gas sector. We are looking for an individual who not only possesses excellent technical capabilities in medium and low voltage power distribution design but also brings expertise in protective relaying, motor control systems, area classification specifications, electrical equipment sizing, and PLCs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Primary responsibilities include the preparation of key electrical documentation, such as area classifications, fugitive emissions studies, single line diagrams, and load lists. Conduct electrical system studies using SKM and ETAP software, including short circuit calculations, time current coordination, load flow, motor starting, and harmonic analysis.
  • Provide electrical input for the detailed scope of work, design basis document, and project execution plan.
  • Develop electrical designs for projects or proposals, determining detailed engineering design criteria.
  • Analyze designs from vendors or subcontractors providing specific equipment.
  • Review work from others to ensure design consistency and integrity throughout the project.
  • Verify all discipline deliverables, leading the development of electrical MTOs and labor estimates.
  • Contribute electrical input for DBM, detailed scope of work, and PEP, coordinating with all concerned disciplines.
  • Prepare engineering man-hour estimates and provide input into project schedules.
  • Review and/or create electrical single line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Develop and evaluate electrical equipment and construction specifications.
  • Lead engineering for procurement activities, including MRQ/MRP development, technical evaluation/recommendation, and vendor drawing approvals.
  • Lead engineering development of Construction Work Package, including project description, construction specifications, IFC drawings, and material lists.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including field engineering, inspection, and special studies.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • EPCM experience preferred. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Supervisory skills are an asset.
  • Proficiency in high, medium, and low voltage power distribution design.
  • Expertise in protective relaying, motor control systems, area classification specifications, electrical equipment sizing, and PLCs.

Education and Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) with an Electrical Engineering Degree.
  • 8-12 years of oil and gas experience with an EPCM background. Supervisory skills are an asset.
  • Experience in Oil & Gas facility projects, including heavy oil facilities, well tie-ins, pipelines, compressor stations, and field gas processing facilities.
  • Familiarity with various electrical codes and standards (CSA, IEEE, API). Ability to coordinate with other engineering disciplines is required.
