Job description

  • The Project Engineer – Oil & Gas is responsible for the planning, coordination, technical oversight, and execution support of engineering projects across S&L’s oil and gas division. This role serves as the primary interface between project management and engineering disciplines.  The project engineering will also work closely with clients, and contractors to ensure that scope, quality, schedule, cost, and safety objectives are achieved from concept development through packages Issued for Construction (IFC). 

    Key Responsibilities 

    • Support the development, planning, and execution of oil and gas projects (FEED, detailed design, greenfield, EPCM, brownfield modifications, and debottlenecking). 
    • Work with Project management to translate client RFPs, contracts, and into clear engineering scopes and deliverables. 
    • Coordinate multi-discipline engineering activities (process, mechanical, piping, civil/structural, I&C, electrical) to ensure technical alignment, operability and constructability. 
    • Support design reviews (model reviews, PFD/P&ID reviews, HAZID/HAZOP/PHA, 3D model reviews) and ensure close-out of action items and record technical notes during these events. 
    • Review and approve engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and data sheets for technical accuracy and compliance with codes, standards, and client requirements. 
    • Identify, evaluate, and help mitigate technical and execution risks, including management of change (MOC) processes. 
    • Demonstrate a commitment to quality and to communicate issues pertaining to quality. 
    • Support cost and schedule control by providing engineering input to estimates, progress measurement, and forecasting. 
    • Ensure application of HSE and process safety requirements in design and execution, in accordance with company, client, and regulatory standards. 
    • Contribute to lessons learned capture, continuous improvement initiatives, and standardization of engineering practices and templates. 

This position is hybrid with 3 days a week in office in Englewood, CO.

Required Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum, Civil, Electrical, or related Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.   
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience in the oil and gas industry (upstream, midstream, LNG, facilities). 
  • Demonstrated experience supporting FEED and/or detailed design for onshore or offshore oil and gas facilities (e.g., well pads, pipelines, gas processing, compression, terminals, LNG). 
  • Proven track record coordinating multi-discipline engineering on projects with multiple stakeholders. 
  • Experience working within a consulting engineering environment. 
  • 1-2 years of field experience (commissioning, construction support, as-builts, etc). 

Required Technical Skills 

  • Strong understanding of oil and gas facilities and systems, such as: 
  • Wellhead and gathering systems, pipelines, and flowlines 
  • Including gathering for gas, oil, water and condensate.  
  • Gas processing (dehydration, sweetening, compression, NGL recovery) and oil stabilization 
  • Utility and offsite systems (fuel gas, flare, instrument air, power distribution, water systems) 
  • Sour gas and CO2 experience is a plus.  
  • Ability to read,interpret, and develop PFDs, P&IDs, SLDs, 3D models, layouts, isometrics, and equipment drawings.
