Job description

Pinnacle Engineering Group is actively seeking a full-time Project Engineer to join our team of professionals. Founded in 2011 with office locations in Wisconsin and Illinois, our team provides the highest quality civil engineering design, land surveying, landscape architecture and consulting services in the industry for infrastructure projects.

This position will be based from either of our Milwaukee offices (Milwaukee Downtown or Brookfield) but we would consider any Pinnacle Office Oak Brook, IL, East Dundee, IL, or Kenosha, WI).

Summary

The Project Engineer I is responsible for developing foundational civil engineering skills, learning from experienced mentors, and contributing to project design and delivery efforts. The Project Engineer I will prepare engineering calculations, design elements, and basic drafting under supervision. This role will support project tasks while building professional expertise and confidence.

Duties and Responsibilities: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing of all responsibilities, duties and/or skills required. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Acquire knowledge base and skills through mentoring and self-directed learning.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, design elements, basic drafting and technical analyses under supervision.
  • Assist in the preparation of plans, specifications, reports, and other project documentation.
  • Use basic CAD drafting skills (Civil 3D preferred) and office software proficiently.
  • Apply established design methods, applicable codes, standards, and procedures.
  • Support the team in delivering estimation of time to complete tasks on schedule and proactively communicate if delays occur.
  • Perform work in accordance with company standards, safety policies, and ethical guidelines.
  • Seek guidance and mentoring from senior engineers and apply feedback to improve performance.
  • Perform additional duties as directed to meet project and company goals.
  • Maintain professionalism, safety, and compliance with company standards.
  • Determine when and where to obtain direction on modified techniques and new approaches

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant civil engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Basic CAD drafting experience: (Civil 3D preferred).
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification (preferred).

  • Utilizing discretion regarding when to add external project team members.
  • Can work effectively both in a team and independently as directed.

Work Environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time if needed.
  • Ability to traverse uneven/muddy/wet/snowy terrain while on the job site.
