Job description

Description:

FESCO Energy has a new opportunity for a Project Development Engineer to partner with our team developing and implementing energy savings and resiliency/efficiency technology projects. This position is flexible with the home office located in Frederick, MD. The job will require travel to local job sites and to the office at least once a week.


The Project Development Engineer will conduct analyses and modeling of energy efficient systems in commercial, institutional, and industrial end-use applications addressing power, energy, lighting, renewables, building envelope, and control systems to determine the pre-condition energy usage and recommended post-condition energy efficient system modifications. As well as conducting utility data analysis, supporting sales in market assessment activities, and collaborating with Project Management during the implementation phase of a project.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and attend visits to project sites to assess existing mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing systems and document energy performance information, including utility data and facility infrastructure drawings
  • Identify opportunities for energy conservation or efficiency, prepare energy savings calculations, and perform engineering assessments including baseline profiles, end-use and retrofit analysis
  • Lead engineering design and development activities in support of construction, operations, and maintenance of customer site projects as required by energy savings contracts
  • Analyze and prepare conceptual and detailed engineering design and bid documents, cost estimates, drawings, and specifications for energy efficient building technology and system measures;
  • Coordinate with vendors and installation contractors for feasibility and pricing verification of proposed project modifications;
  • Provide engineering guidance throughout development, construction, project commissioning, and operations, including proposals, technical reports, cost estimates, and presentations
  • Ensure design compliance with company, industry, trade, and jurisdictional safety standards, practices, codes
  • Cultivate and maintain positive business relationships
  • Assist in the proposal development process
  • Complete energy efficiency and resiliency audits of customer sites
  • Define project scope and design deliverables that support project goals in collaboration with the client and all stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as required


Requirements:

Education/Experience Qualifications:

  • BSME/BSEE or equivalent four-year technical engineering degree with proven energy efficiency and/or renewable technology project development and implementation work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional Project Engineer experience required; preferably in the energy field
  • Ability to analyze and quantify energy savings and implement projects involving chiller and boiler plants, motors, VFDs, HVAC retrofit, controls, and distributed generation
  • Experience with whole building energy simulation software such as eQuest
  • Financial planning/ budget experience with ability to develop a business case helpful
  • Professional registration or educational progress toward PE, CEM, LEED
  • Excellent verbal, written, and computer communication and technical presentation skills
  • Excellent attention to detail skills and inherent understanding and knowledge of concepts related to this field.
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Knowledge of U.S. commercial and Government standards, regulations and codes will be beneficial (e.g., DoD UFC/UFGS, NEC, OSHA, NFPA, ASHRAE, NIST, , RMF, etc.)
  • Construction experience with the ability to meet project deadlines. Construction in the ESCO and Design Build arena is highly preferred
  • Excellent Project Management skills (e.g., understanding schedules, meeting and exceeding customer deadlines, ability to take a leadership role when necessary, etc.)
  • Experience with power, energy, renewables, building simulation programs and methodologies, lighting retrofits, and energy conservation
