Job description

We are hiring a Project Developer to lead all aspects of site development and manage the design-development process for PurposeEnergy anaerobic digester plants. During a critical ~12-month window, the Project Developer serves as the primary client-facing manager as a project moves from sales into development and execution. Success requires leadership on two fronts: with the client, running project development meetings and serving as the primary point of contact; and internally, keeping the PurposeEnergy team on milestones, budgets, and schedules.

Key Responsibilities
  • Locating and screening properties for digester plants, determining availability, reviewing feasibility with engineering colleagues, and negotiating pricing

  • Leading entitlement and site permitting processes including zoning, variances, site development permits, stormwater, and traffic/access permits and curb cuts

  • Securing environmental permits including wastewater, air quality/air burn, plant installation (where required), FERC, and others as necessary

  • Identifying and managing attorneys through Letters of Interest, Purchase and Sale, title due diligence, and closing

  • Identifying and contracting site due diligence including traffic, geotechnical analysis, utility availability, Phase 1, natural resources and endangered species, topographical and ALTA surveys, and other standard processes

  • Creating and managing schedules and budgets for design, development, and permitting through the start of construction

  • Managing utility connections ensuring adequate service, cost clarity, and schedule certainty — including electric interconnection and co-generation (on-site generation plus offtake of electricity and/or renewable attributes) and gas connection with biogas clean-up and pressurization skids (plus offtake of biogas and/or attributes)

  • Coordinating with PurposeEnergy's sales, finance, design, and construction teams and serving as client-facing project lead — running client meetings and ensuring follow-through on outstanding tasks

  • Preparing internal project funding approval documents, coordinating with other functions to support completion.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrable history of successful real estate closings, entitlements, permits received, interconnection agreements signed, and/or comparable accomplishments in real estate and energy.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, though relevant experience and accomplishments are considered equivalent to formal degrees and credentials.

  • 4+ years’ experience in real estate development, project management, and energy project development.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, clear, concise written and verbal expression and a collaborative, team-focused approach across a broad range of work groups.

  • Analytical problem-solver with a flexible, creative, solution-focused mindset, able to take calculated risks and adjust course when tactics aren’t working.

  • Strong prioritization and multitasking as a self-starter, operating effectively in a complex, rapidly changing environment with tight schedules and demanding targets.

  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, various scheduling tools, and cost management software.

  • Fanatical focus on customer service, ensuring internal and external partners receive above-and-beyond support.

  • Experience with anaerobic digester project development is ideal.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $120,000 to $155,000 depending on relevant experience.

  • Eligible for bonus & Company equity plan

  • Comprehensive benefits (healthcare, dental, vision, 401(k))

  • Expense reimbursement for work-related travel

Location & Travel
  • Based in our Headquarters in Salem, NH, within 1 minute of I-93, possibility or hybrid or remote.

  • Overall 20 - 30% travel is anticipated, but it may be more at times.
