Software Development Manager – Customer Care Product & Engineering

Your Opportunity

Chewy is hiring a Software Development Manager for our Customer Care Engineering team in Boston. This team is responsible for the applications used by Customer Care agents to provide best in class customer service to our customers. As an SDM, you will be responsible for a team of engineers who will be involved in delivering tools and insights to create a “7-star” experience for Customer Care.

 This is a high-profile position that will have exposure across business and product teams, influencing the vision and implementation of architecture, design and features for our best-in-class Customer Care team. As part of a dynamic team, this role offers a tremendous opportunity for professional growth in the leading online pet retailer in the US. As an SDM, you will be involved in hands on architecture and development along with the team that you lead.

What you'll do:

  • Manage a team of software engineers responsible for building tools and insights for Chewy’s best in class Customer Care.
  • Drive priorities, technical decisions, delivery, continuous improvement, and support of current and future projects. 
  • Define and advocate for guidelines in software development, testing, deployment, and production support. 
  • Define and champion operational excellence that enable system observability and alarming.  Continuously measure system availability and optimize system performance. 
  • Lead and communicate technical designs, technology strategy, and priorities to other technical teams and senior management. 
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including scientists, product managers, and operations customers, to deliver effective solutions that meet business objectives. 
  • Manage Team Members’ growth, deliver feedback and direction, and provide opportunities that fit their career path.  

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Systems Engineering or a similar math or engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated history of implementing and managing significant software development projects in a CI/CD environment
  • 5-10 years of experience in Software Development as a software engineer
  • 2+ years of experience in Engineering Management
  • Strong expertise with both frontend and backend technologies such as React and Java.
  • Proven delivery experience working under an Agile/Scrum methodology
  • Ability to build highly scalable, distributed systems using cloud-native technologies such as AWS. 
  • Ability to simultaneously support multiple high priority projects in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Established track record of implementing with urgency and guiding teams to resolve complex technical challenges within tight timelines.

  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate’s relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
