JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position works out of our Livermore, CA location in the Abbott Heart Failure, Acelis Connected Health (ACH) business. Our Heart Failure solutions are helping address some of the World's greatest healthcare challenges.
The Director of Software Product Development reports to the Divisional Vice President and General Manager of Acelis Connected Health. The Director of Software Product Development leads all aspects for the portfolio of customer and patient facing solutions. This includes defining and commercializing scalable, trusted, and extensible architecture, providing oversight for design, development and evolution of solutions, and establishing processes and tools to realize the strategy efficiently. This position is a key member of the business leadership team and will provide technical input into the development and execution of strategic plans to create customer focused digital products and services. The Director of Software Product Development will work closely with the cross-functional team, support functions, and partners to establish and achieve goals while ensuring compatibility with all systems involved.
What You'll Work On
  • The technical leader within the business. Create a long-term roadmap & platform strategy for a secure, interoperable, data analytics, and AI driven non-medical software offering including cloud, desktop, mobile, and analytics.
  • Lead team to develop, maintain, and ensure reliability and quality of current and future products and services.
  • Provide technical assistance throughout software development lifecycle, including diagnosing software problems.
  • Provide leadership to design/development teams to keep focus. Provides design/development teams with appropriate resources to perform assigned tasks and deliver on commitments.
  • Interface with appropriate internal and external resources to ensure intellectual property is appropriately protected.
  • Actively monitor technology trends and competitive dynamics while integrating and adapting internal plans accordingly.
  • Keep senior management team informed of design/development progress and issues.
  • Track and forecast product and technology projects. Provide leadership to ensure cross-functional delivery of programs.
  • Contribute to business unit and divisional strategy planning.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets. Obtain capital resources to meet company goals.
  • Hire and retain a diverse, highly qualified staff and provides real-time performance feedback. Set goals which align to department plans and manages the execution of goals through coaching and mentoring. Maintain a safe and professional work environment.
  • Actively participate and provides technical expertise in the assessment of current and potential partners.
  • Formulate and implement programs, policies, tools, and procedures required to support technical needs. Guides development and documentation of requirements, test plan protocols, standard operating procedures, specifications, and test procedures. Ensures team complies with these policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Interface with appropriate internal and external resources (regulatory, quality, IT, customers, etc.) to ensure development programs meet regulatory, compliance, legal and customer requirements.
  • Participate in review boards for intellectual property, CAPA, complaints, business unit planning, and others as necessary.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in developing and commercializing software products and services
  • Proven success managing teams using Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Proven understanding of and experience in managing teams for compliance of key industry compliance certifications, including SOCII, ISO27001, ISO 9001 and FedRAMP
  • Experience managing and providing direction on digital product platform design and architecture
  • Experience developing and launching digital health products and services in consumer tech or med tech that delight the customer
  • Global experience: Effectively collaborates with international teams, leveraging diverse perspectives to enhance project outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 15 years of experience in developing and commercializing software products and services
  • 5 years at the Sr. Manager/Associate Director or higher level leading the development of highly technical software solutions. This experience should include leadership of complex programs with extensive staff management and cross functional organizational influence.
  • MS and/or PhD degree in computer science or software engineering related field
  • 10+ years managing or directing technical delivery teams in healthcare, including Medical Device, connected, or remote monitoring products space
  • 10+ year of HIPAA compliance and regulatory experience and expertise
  • 10+ years of cyber security experience and expertise
  • Broad technical depth in a wide range of software technologies (mobile, cloud, desktop, advanced analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence)
  • Familiarity with the clinical setting and integrated set of needs by health care professionals, health care systems, and patients
  • Strong organizational skills, including program/project governance
  • Strong interdisciplinary, intercultural, influence, and networking skills
  • Strong influence and negotiating skills with all levels of stakeholders
  • Experience with selecting and managing suppliers in a large multinational organization

The base pay for this position is
$197,300.00 - $394,700.00
