Job Description

The Senior Manager, Project Controls leads the daytoday operation of the project controls function across multiple programs and projects, with handson oversight of planning and scheduling, cost, estimating, and change management/trending. This role ensures that project controls staff, processes, and tools are deployed effectively so project teams have accurate plans, timely performance data, and clear reporting to support delivery objectives.


Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Lead the project controls function for assigned programs/projects, providing daytoday direction on planning and scheduling, cost control, estimating, and change management activities.
  • Manage and develop project controls engineers and analysts, including workload assignment, hiring/recruiting input, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and training.
  • Oversee the execution and continuous improvement of project controls processes, procedures, and toolsets within the department to support consistent, highquality deliverables.
  • Plan and prioritize project controls resources across multiple projects, balancing demand, resolving conflicts, and reallocating staff to meet key milestones and deadlines.
  • Provide handson guidance and quality checks on core project controls outputs (schedules, cost reports, forecasts, estimates, trend logs, change requests, etc.) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage the documentation and maintenance of integrated project baselines (scope, schedule, cost) developed with program/project leadership and ensure updates reflect approved changes.
  • Monitor performance against baselines, analyze variances, and work with project managers to develop and track corrective actions.
  • Track and monitor project budgets, committed costs, actuals, and forecasts; validate data and support development of monthly/quarterly financial projections for assigned programs/projects.
  • Lead the identification and logging of project risks, maintain risk registers, and support development and tracking of mitigation and contingency plans with project teams.
  • Oversee preparation and distribution of routine and adhoc reports, including KPIs, dashboards, status reports, and executive summaries for program/project leadership.
  • Coordinate change control across assigned projects, ensuring trends and change requests are captured, analyzed for cost/schedule impact, and processed in accordance with governance.
  • Partner with Business Development to define project controls requirements for new pursuits, proposals, and early planning, including input to schedules, estimates, and assumptions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for project controls matters with program/project leaders, finance, and other supporting functions, helping interpret data and advise on options.
  • Contribute to developing, rolling out, and enforcing project controls standards, templates, and guidelines across the organization and share lessons learned from active projects.
  • Maintain an organized repository of project controls documentation and ensure compliance with internal policies, contractual requirements, and external standards as applicable.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in management, business, engineering, science or related discipline from an accredited university or college.
  • Typically, fifteen years of project controls and management supporting large and complex organizations/programs/projects and working within Project Management Office (PMO) environment.
  • Basic software application skills (i.e. Microsoft Word and Excel).

Location: 530 Gaither Road, Rockville, MD

Work Site Expectations: 4 days in office.
Travel Expectations: up to 20%
Hours: Standard office hours are 8:00am ET to 5:00pm ET, Monday -Friday

Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them. Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions. Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives.

Offers within the posted salary range are commensurate with the individual's qualifications for the position, along with a view on internal equity, market data, and room for growth. The salary range for this position is:

$165,825 - $276,375
