Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.

Your role and responsibilities

As an Intern Finance Specialist at IBM, you'll gain hands-on experience applying your knowledge of finance, accounting, and business operations while developing exposure to SAP, one of the world's leading enterprise technology platforms. You'll work alongside experienced IBM professionals while learning how organizations use technology, data, automation, and Artificial Intelligence to modernize financial processes and improve business performance.

As part of our SAP practice, you'll work alongside experienced SAP consultants, finance professionals, and technology specialists while developing practical financial, analytical, problem-solving, technology, and consulting skills.

This opportunity is designed for students with a strong interest and foundation in finance or accounting who want to develop technology and consulting expertise. Prior SAP experience is not required. Depending on business needs, your skills, academic background, and career interests, you may gain exposure to SAP solutions supporting areas such as financial accounting, management accounting, financial reporting, general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, budgeting, forecasting, cost management, controlling, and other finance-related business processes.

No two projects are exactly alike-you may contribute to projects supporting clients across industries including manufacturing, consumer products, retail, healthcare, financial services, energy, automotive, industrial, public sector, and more.

Throughout your internship, you'll strengthen your understanding of finance and accounting processes while learning how SAP technologies support those processes across large organizations. You'll gain exposure to how financial requirements are translated into enterprise solutions and how technology, data, automation, analytics, and AI can improve financial operations and decision-making.

During your internship, you may have opportunities to:

  • Support finance, accounting, business, and technology teams in understanding financial processes, requirements, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Gain exposure to SAP-enabled finance processes including financial accounting, general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cost management, controlling, and related financial activities.
  • Assist experienced team members with analyzing financial and business requirements and learning how they are translated into SAP-enabled solutions.
  • Apply finance and accounting knowledge to understand how transactions and business processes contribute to financial reporting, controls, analysis, and decision-making.
  • Assist with SAP testing, data validation, documentation, issue resolution, and solution implementation activities under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Analyze financial, operational, and business data to identify trends, support decision-making, and help develop recommendations.
  • Contribute to finance process improvement and transformation initiatives designed to improve efficiency, accuracy, visibility, controls, and business performance.
  • Collaborate with SAP consultants, finance professionals, technology specialists, and client teams while developing communication, teamwork, analytical, and consulting skills.
  • Gain exposure to how Artificial Intelligence, automation, analytics, cloud technologies, and enterprise platforms are transforming the finance function.

We're not looking for SAP experts. We're looking for students with a strong interest in finance and accounting, analytical thinking, curiosity, and a passion for learning. Your internship will provide opportunities to begin developing the SAP and consulting capabilities that complement your financial knowledge.

High-performing interns may be considered for full-time Associate opportunities following graduation, based on business needs and individual performance.

To give yourself the best opportunity for success, we advise applying only to roles that align with your skills and experience, rather than applying broadly across all entry-level positions. You'll receive a status update email for each application, so be sure to check your IBM Careers account regularly - it's the best way to get a centralized view of which roles you have active applications against.
