We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Cost Accountant with strong data entry skills to support financial tracking and reporting for construction projects. This role is responsible for accurately recording job costs, maintaining financial data integrity, and assisting in cost analysis to ensure projects stay within budget. The ideal candidate understands construction accounting principles, job costing, and thrives in a fast-paced, project-based environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesCost Accounting Duties- Track and analyze project costs, including labor, materials and subcontractor expenses
- Maintain job cost ledgers and ensure accurate allocation of expenses to specific projects
- Assist in preparing project cost reports, variance analyses, and budget comparisons
- Monitor committed costs vs. actual costs and identify discrepancies
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes related to project accounting
- Work with project managers to review budgets and cost forecasts
Financial Records- Input and update job cost data in accounting or ERP systems
- Ensure all financial transactions are coded correctly to jobs, cost codes, and general ledger accounts
- Maintain organized digital records of financial documents
- Verify data accuracy and resolve discrepancies promptly
Compliance & Reporting- Ensure compliance with company policies and construction accounting standards
- Assist with audits by providing accurate financial data and documentation
- Generate routine and ad hoc financial reports for management
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction
- Strong understanding of job costing and construction accounting practices
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage 300/100 or similar ERP systems)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

- Familiarity with cost codes, AIA billing, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
