Job description

Architectural Designer I
Overview
VCBO Architecture is seeking an Architectural Designer I to join our team. This role is ideal for an emerging design professional who is eager to grow their technical skills, contribute to meaningful projects, and learn alongside experienced architects and designers in a collaborative studio environment.
As an Architectural Designer I, you'll support projects through all phases of design and documentation while gaining hands-on experience in project coordination, construction documents, and design development. You'll have opportunities to learn from experienced professionals, expand your technical expertise, and build a strong foundation for a successful architectural career.
About VCBO
VCBO is an award-winning architecture firm based in downtown Salt Lake City. Our work spans education, civic, healthcare, religious, and commercial projects, with a focus on strengthening communities through thoughtful, sustainable design.
We believe great architecture is created through collaboration, curiosity, and continuous learning. Whether you're just beginning your career or taking your next professional step, you'll find opportunities to work on impactful projects alongside experienced mentors who are invested in your growth.
We value mentorship, professional development, and balance, and support a studio culture that's both design-driven and genuinely human (yes, including a 9/80 work schedule option and the occasional office dodgeball game).
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of design concepts, studies, and presentation materials.
  • Support the production of construction documents, drawings, and specifications.
  • Create 3D models, renderings, and graphics to communicate design intent.
  • Conduct site analysis, code research, and material or product research.
  • Coordinate with architects, consultants, and project team members throughout project development.
  • Participate in project meetings and incorporate feedback into design revisions.
  • Maintain organized project files and follow firm drafting and documentation standards.
  • Demonstrate initiative, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • 03 years of professional experience in an architectural or design environment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design software.
  • Basic understanding of building systems, construction documentation, and architectural standards.
  • Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, receive feedback, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
