Project Architect Project Manager information

What is a project architect project manager?

A Project Architect Project Manager is a professional who combines the responsibilities of both designing architectural projects and managing their execution. They oversee the design process, ensure compliance with building codes, coordinate with clients and consultants, and manage project timelines and budgets. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to ensure projects are completed successfully from conception to completion. Typically, they serve as the main point of contact between clients, contractors, and the design team throughout the project lifecycle.

How do project architect project managers balance design responsibilities with project management tasks on a daily basis?

Project Architect Project Managers often split their time between leading the design process and overseeing project schedules, budgets, and team coordination. A typical day involves reviewing design documents, meeting with clients or stakeholders, and collaborating closely with engineers and consultants to address technical challenges. Balancing creative problem-solving with administrative duties is essential, and strong organizational skills help manage competing priorities. Clear communication and delegation are key to ensuring both the design vision and project logistics move forward smoothly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project architect project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Architect Project Manager, you need strong architectural design skills, project management experience, and typically a professional degree in architecture along with relevant licensure. Proficiency in tools like AutoCAD, Revit, project management software (such as MS Project), and familiarity with building codes and regulations are essential. Leadership, effective communication, and organizational skills help distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to client specifications while coordinating multidisciplinary teams.

Job description

J. Cor Architecture is a Scottsdale-based residential architecture firm designing luxury custom homes, spec homes, and residential communities throughout Arizona, Utah, California, and Nevada.

Our work brings together thoughtful design and a strong understanding of how homes are built. Every project is considered in relation to the people who will live there, its setting, and the architectural principles that give it a distinct identity.

About the Role

J. Cor Architecture is seeking a talented and motivated Project Architect / Project Manager with 5โ€“8 years of professional experience in residential architecture to join our Scottsdale office.

This is a hands-on role for an architect who enjoys being involved throughout the life of a projectโ€”from design and client collaboration through technical documentation, consultant coordination, permitting, and construction administration.

The ideal candidate is a strong designer and technical architect who can manage projects, communicate effectively with clients and consultants, and take ownership of producing thoughtful, well-coordinated architectural work.

Responsibilities

As a Project Architect / Project Manager, you will:

  • Lead residential projects from early design through construction.
  • Develop design concepts and translate them into well-resolved architectural solutions.
  • Produce and oversee architectural drawings and construction documents in Revit.
  • Manage project schedules, deliverables, and internal coordination.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for clients throughout the project.
  • Coordinate with structural, MEP, civil, landscape, interior design, and other consultants.
  • Guide projects through permitting and respond to jurisdictional comments.
  • Review drawings for design intent, technical accuracy, constructability, and coordination.
  • Participate in construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, site observations, and coordination with contractors.
  • Collaborate closely with principals, designers, and production staff.
  • Help maintain J. Cor Architectureโ€™s standards for design quality and documentation.
  • Mentor and provide direction to junior team members as appropriate.
Qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

  • 5โ€“8 years of professional architectural experience, with a strong background in residential architecture.
  • A professional degree in Architecture or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Autodesk Revit and experience developing complete architectural construction document sets.
  • Experience managing architectural projects and coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams.
  • A strong understanding of residential construction, detailing, building systems, and construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of applicable building codes and permitting processes.
  • Strong design sensibility, with the ability to carry design intent through technical documentation.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to communicate confidently and professionally with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal team members.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
  • A collaborative, proactive, and solutions-oriented approach to project work.
Location

This position is based in our Scottsdale, Arizona studio and requires regular in-office collaboration. Candidates should currently live in the Phoenix metropolitan area or be willing to relocate.

  • 3 weeks paid time off, plus bank holidays
  • 401(k) with 4% company match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
What Weโ€™re Looking For

The right person for this position is comfortable moving between design, project management, and technical production. You should be equally comfortable discussing a design decision with a client, coordinating an engineering issue with a consultant, developing a detail in Revit, and working with a contractor to resolve a field condition.

Weโ€™re looking for someone who takes ownership of their projects, communicates clearly, cares about the quality of the work, and wants to play a meaningful role in the continued growth of J. Cor Architecture.
